Good thing the Habs put this out, sports media were stale with subjects atm

Jeff Gorton has the tidbit of the video. « You pretty much have to draft or get lucky to get high-end talent now right? And… sometime you take a chance and… so. It seems as though this room has said no we don’t want to try this chance. And I just want to make sure we’re making the right decision.
This straight up reveals they did not actually take the best player available (most likely talking about Michkov) here described by the « high-end talent ». They preferred to go with the harder position to get (Rockstrom essentially confirms later in the video) and a type of player that every team that has won the cup had apparently, which is a drafting strategy that has been proven time and time again as being ineffective (a recent example being the flyers). This also somewhat clashes in philosophy with what they did in the 2022 draft, going for upside at pretty much every pick. They settled for way lower ceilings and arguably higher floors? Like im not even sure. It just seems like they picked worst players for whatever reason.

It’s funny how people on twitter think Gorton is the negative influence in the front office, but in the video he’s the one pushing the scouts to take a chance and saying high-end players are only found in the draft (probably talking about Michkov). Other takeaway is how much they seemingly like Fowler.

7:10 is the fucking dagger
the scouts didn’t want to take a chance on talent, fuck me
where do the scouts expect the team to acquire those elite players if they don’t want to draft them? cause we don’t have them in the organization, we gotta get them somehow

Awww man I guess I am going to be a total homer and drafting Fowler in my dynasty league way too early. LOVE THE KID! He’s like Cole Caufield the goalie version …. Goalie Caufield?

The clear stand out here is Fowler. I love the fire in him.

I took a brief glance at Twitter to see how the most toxic part of our fanbase is reacting to this video. Always good for a chuckle.
The one thing I find funniest is the people complaining about the lack of transparency as to why they didn’t pick Michkov. The thing is, if anyone in that draft room said « we can’t take Michkov, he’s out here kicking his teammates, there’s a ton of red flags », you REALLY can’t put that kind of thing in a video. He’s a Philly prospect, and you can’t just go around publicly trashing the prospects in other teams’ systems.

Meh not much else was expected from a heavily edited video. The ones from year past were better insights

It’s such a shame that we can’t see the scouts actually debate Michkov vs Reinbacher as I think it would have really explained why management decided to go with David. I understand we can’t show scouts criticizing or shit-talking other team’s players but still.
You have scouts debating whether to pick Fowler in the third, and arguing for Florian ahead of Konyushkov. Yet Gorton’s words imply that the whole room was unanimously for David instead of Michkov. To me that’s extremely telling that the scouts saw or heard things about him that made them stay away. Unfortunately, we may never know what those things are.
