This is the least excited I've been to start a season in a long time. ..the core four have proven they can't win in the playoffs and next year is just going to be more of the same .

The D isn't built for playoff success!! If they can make a move with Nylander for a top 4D with some nastiness then do it. Rolling back with the same core 5 and swapping out bit players will get you the same results as years past. A significant move is still needed
Mixing up lines during a playoff run should only happen when an injury occurs.

Pick up Patrick Kane or Phil Kessel and trade a Forward with Timmins for a Defenceman. Timmins 1.1 Jarnkrok 2.1 Lafferty 1.3 all worthy of trading … thats 4.5 worth of cap . Give kane a mill and you have 3.5 . You can get a good defencmen for 2 or 3 mill
Successful season imo is they are competitive in the ECF. No making it and then getting destroyed 4-0 like Carolina. Anything less than that is a failure.
Nylander has to go. Send him away for a top D. sign Kane for WAY cheaper than WN and you get some scoring back with bonafide playoff success.

Seeing how Knies, Schenn, O'reilly, and "should be" captain Rielly played last playoffs speaks to the idiocy of paying a few of these regular season perimeter pete's. Heck, I'll even throw Nylander in there for extra effort. But no, his highness Matthews, clearly being the most talented, will again be anointed the savior. He's just that good, they say. He's a 60 goal scorer, they say. He's…Bob Loblaw… Yep, Matthews and his little buddy will again put up points, and come playoffs, leave the heavy lifting to other players.
There's zero excitement for me at this point. The league is watered down, the parity is too obvious. the hard cap and elite contracts out of whack. Not sure NHL can continue to be successful.
