Hey, it’s hockey! I’ll take it even if it IS a rookie exhibition game!

Yes, Anaheim just scored first but HOCKEY!!!

  3. RoombaArmy

Leo Carlsson could be a little worse huh. Like, wouldn’t mind that.

    Good job from Fleming tho.

    1st period.

We actually looked good. The first chance we gave up was an atrocious, fluky blown play which resulted in a clean break. Second was a back door shot courtesy of a straight-up all-star pass by Leo. Can’t hate, that’s why he went high in a stacked draft.

    Standouts:

Fleming. He has the size and the strength. He’s practically identical, in build, to Whitecloud (Fleming 6’1” 207, Whitecloud 6’2” 209). He plays with a similar toolkit. And he has a remarkable pest attitude to him.

Soap. Sapovaliv. Big, intelligent positioning, silky soft mitts and good vision. I like what he brings to the table, it’s the sort of game that translates really well to a winning middle 6 center.

Chayka. Honorable mention. I like his size and his movement. I also felt like his puck distribution was consistently impressive. Again, a sort of toolkit which translates well to the NHL, except this time on the blue line and not in the middle.

Also, poor Vikman. Hyped guy, played well, got trashed by some really tough shit. Feel for the boy.

That was a nice chance. Go baby knights.

    So far 2-0 Anaheim.

2nd period has been sloppy by the VGK so far, and Anaheim’s been a touch faster to loose pucks.

Turned off the game to try and nap, they score. FINE.

    Good job Brisson <3

  8. Prfctcellrulz

I’m out of the loop on rookies, on a scale of 1-10 how good is Brisson?

  9. Prfctcellrulz

    2-1 They (Anaheim) after 2.

    But still, HOCKEY!

    #༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ VGK TAKE MY 3RD PERIOD ENERGY ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

God it feels nice to post that again!

    2nd period.

I thought we looked worse, funny enough. Team defense broke down frequently and we just didn’t play as tight as we did in the first. A few moments of brilliance, however, one of which helped to bridge the gap.

    Standouts:

Brisson. I’m still really concerned about how one-dimensional he looks. But yeah, fuck. What a cannon.

Fleming. Again. Hustling across the ice to lay the body in the corner, breaking up passes, playing physical and punitive hockey. I love the potential on this one, it’s just such a valuable type of playstyle in today’s game, especially on a young guy.

Honorable Mention. Vikman. Team defense was soft and sloppy this period, and they let up a lot of premium chances on their goaltender. Jesper was all over the place, and showed excellent lateral movement in the crease responding to a variety of high danger chances. Excellent mental recovery from a punishing first period.

VGK damn near tied it back up

  14. Steve_Hunts96

VGK commit 2 STUPID penalties, and now face 5v3

1 boarding, and 1 delay of game

  15. teatew

Our kids not quite as good as Ducks kids. Good thing our big boy team is better than their big boy team. 😀

  16. Steve_Hunts96

    Game over.

    4-2 L

    Not ideal

    3rd period.

Not as much to like. Team looked flat after a minute or two and stayed flat for much of the period. They brought it back towards the end of the game but it was too little too late.

I think Fleming was the biggest standout in the game. I like his defensive game. It’s heavy and physical, but his positioning and compete were both on display at a high level throughout the game. He didn’t do much in the offensive zone. I think his projection is a middle or bottom pairing RD, and a penalty killer. It’s a valuable player type, just doesn’t have the highest ceiling. Love his grit.

I’m also big on Soap. He’s a project. Still a pretty slow skater, but he’s clearly beginning to read the game at a higher level, which offsets that a bit. He’s got a big body, he uses it well, and he has a great stick. He looked comfortable in both zones, and he moved the puck with accuracy and pace.
