I love to have him on the leafs team I just don't see how it works money wise. Would he take a huge home town
discount or not
Only way this team is going anywhere is if they simply trade Nylander and only resign Tavares at a huge discount.
No
Tavares is coming, you watch
This take is a bit off. Stammer is great but he wants his golden handshake as its his last contract. We dont want two captains either as I bet you O'Rielly left because he wanted more leadership. We still have Tavares for 2 years and even then Matthews will want to be captain.
Former bushwacker, new sub.
So, if you had GM power with the Leafs what would your priorities be with the team as it sits today (Set 9/23)?
I already have a deadly offense, some decent goaltending with question marks including the baby Leaf team. I'm thinking if I have any kind of option to "make a splash" it has to be on defense bro.
One of the teams greatest historical examples of whipping a dead horse was continuously grabbing…maybe not "hail Mary" passes, but picking up players who were some of the league's top in their positions up hoping they could summon the ghost of Christmas past glory and the team repeatedly kept at it over and over with marginal success at best and for the most part these turned out to be a waste of resources and seasons.
So, for me, as my popcorn box kick at the can, I'm not going to entertain Stamkos, not necessarily because I doubt his ability to push through his age limitations, but more due to the fact this team needs to be a more rounded out team.
You're never gonna match the kind of offensive skill this team has in spades with equally skilled D men, but for me I'm going to spare my scarce resources thinking about a conservative approach in not depleting the future which was Dubas' albatross, I'm going to try for a hockey trade where we trade out multiple assets to bring back one or two skilled, but not necessarily "elite" d-man/men with both physical defensive acumen as well as some offensive ability to run the PP as well as run amuck even strength.
The team offense will be better served through bringing in one or two well rounded d-men which will help with PP which the team already has excelled at, but with the right defense they'll have more time in offensive zone time and worry less about making the odd, calculated offensive risks.
Here's to the channel brother! BOOM!

Love Stamkos the leafs need D not another high scoring winger that is slow footed and will be in decline hard pass
I'd love to see stamkos but also would love more to ovechkin with leafs even if its one 2 years
