I think that one guy in the game thread cared more about this game than anyone that played in it.

  2. leafman4000

Whatever. Cowan scored. All that matters

  3. Silent_Leg1976

I KNOW ITS ONLY THE SECOND PRESEASON GAME AND HE IS ALMOST 40 but Gio did not look good.

  4. Svalbard38

I don’t like losses, but these ones don’t count so I’m just gonna be happy with Easton Cowan.

  5. CTHT07

Lets trade Matthews and Marner for goodies and rebuild around Cowan.

  6. Movieandtvfan

Matthews and marner are still awful on 3 on 3. Some things never change.

  7. B0_SSMAN

Cowen is a fucking stud. He had a great game and proved any skeptics (myself included) wrong

  8. nthensome

Matthew’s missed that final shot (which led to the OT winner) by 6 fucking feet

  9. Trust-EV

Not really impressed by Klingberg. Reminds me of a more immobile Tyson Barrie.

  10. nthensome

Do we HAVE to endure another year with that stupid fucking goal celebration song?

I was thoroughly entertained and no one got hurt. About all you can ask for in a preseason game.

« This team is garbage, season is over. Bunch of bums especially Matthews and Marner in OT. I’m soooo done with this team » /s

As we all practice for frustrating losses for the upcoming season.

As much as everyone is worried about Klingberg being another Barrie, it was extremely satisfying seeing every single shot he took reach the net, instead of hitting a forward’s shin pads like the Barrie special

Cowan really surprised me. He really has wheels and speed. Uses his body too. Really impressed with him

Im not sold on Gio playing 82 + games. Tre will have to upgrade the D eventually. Cowen looks like a good pick and played well tonight. I liked Klingberg on the PP especially with his shot on the tying goal creating havoc with Bertuzzi down low. Top line looks good and is only going to get better with time. Other than that just nice to see the boys back on TV.

I try not to be a negative Nancy but Klingberg did look pretty bad and that’s pretty concerning for me.

Cowan looks like a stud, I think he has Caufield potential.

Robertson was disappointing. Expect him to be traded if he doesn’t wow quick.

Klingberg is a very high risk player, he can make plays but he also turns the puck over quite often while getting caught. He’s not exactly the player you want on the ice in tight checking defensive playoff hockey. I think Timmins is the better Dman, but coach probably sees otherwise.

Holmberg is looking like a career Marlie at this point.

I want to see Gregor get another look, he could be a good depth option down the road.

Jones was solid in net, while Woll looked a bit shaky. It’s early pre season so the goaltending is not exactly something I would be too critical about.

Didn’t get to watch much of the game and can’t find them anywhere else. Anyone have the lines from tonight?

**Bad**: Klingberg lost the puck multiple times simply by not skating as fast as he was carrying the puck.

**Good**: Nick Robertson survived without an injury.

**Bad**: McCabe not anticipating Marner’s shot-for-rebound ate me up.

    **Good**: Easton Cowan. 🤠

At least they get a point

That last second goal got me so hyped, my puppy (who hasn’t been around for a hockey season) popped up out of his nap and got excited.

So stoked for the season to start LGL

    My armchair scout takes:

    * Easton Cowan stock going way up. I had no idea what to expect from him and thought he looked great. The speed and vision looks there already. We got a player here, boys.

    * Liked Bertuzzi a lot. If he can land some of those deflections more reliably then he will be a menace.

    * Kinda frustrated with Marner in general and Matthews bobbled the puck under pressure a couple times but I’m not worried about them in a preseason game.

    * I’m trying not to be a doomer but Klingberg definitely worries me. Despite his number 3, he looks much more like a worse Jake Gardiner than a new Justin Holl. I have very modest expectations still but I hope he just needs some more time with the team.

    * Niemela needs the Sandin/Liljegren treatment. The potential looks there but needs way more polish.

    * Kokkonen was baffling to me. Played more like a forward than a defenseman. I don’t really think that’s what we need right now but I can see the upside.

    * Robertson looked like his old feisty self. I just want him to stay healthy.

    * Gregor had some nice shifts and looks like a good depth guy.

    * Reaves is what we all expect. Holmberg was about as I remember. Kampf was Kampf. Gio looked his age a bit tonight.

    * Holl got lit up on some good shots. Jones was super solid but didn’t get challenged nearly as much unless it was post and out.

    * Abruzzese looks like a project still. It looks like he wants to play faster than his hands are capable of going. Kinda disappointing.

    * Tverberg doesn’t look close at all. It felt like he bungled the play every opportunity he got.

  23. hexsealedfusion

Easton was way better then I expected. Gio was bad, as bad as he finished last year. Time might have caught up with him, he is 40 (in 1 weeek) and the oldest player in the NHL.

  24. I really like the confidence Cowan is showing. Preseason means nothing but I’ve liked what I’ve seen out of Cowan, he’s not scared to make a play and seems to be really enjoying his opportunity.

    Leafs in playoff form already…noice
