Man come on guys it's a preseason game ahl team against a nhl team here we go with the media again just like FL when he asked petty about his contract a couple of days ago its nothing buy f@$kin negative do all of look at peteys eye nd his head reaction .. he was pissed but still no respect is there any respect for these guys or the team ? …like come on watch they will make the playoffs nd still nothing but negative questions just sick of all the negative that builds around this team and haven't even started the real season yet frigging sad

Starting the season on the road, why send top players to a nothing game in Calgary.

What these guys don't grasp is that the whole point of training camp & pre-season games is experimenting, auditioning the young guys, doing everything that they can't do once the season starts. It's pre-season. It means nothing. If the team wins 7 of their first 10 actual games that count, it will be due in part to the process of elimination that happens in pre-season.
Can you imagine what the result would have been had not the Canucks stressed a good start months ago? Sure they were minor leaguers, but this is the next wave guys, to support the big guns who are in their prime the next 3 years. Wow.

Podkolzin is a power forward which ALWAYS take much longer to develop. Lots of teams give up on a player who later develops into OMG. Bertuzzi for example

With two days between games I can't figure out what Tocchet was thinking, by not including at least a couple of NHL veterans to keep the games from getting out of hand. Just how much do you believe in how awesome your prospect pool to ice that team. The Oilers had 3-4 depth roster players out for a 5-0 loss to keep things from going completely off the rails the way it did for the Canucks. Getting slaughtered 10-0 gives you absolutely nothing of value except some demoralized players and a wasted night on the ice.
Podkolzin was used on both sides of the special teams playing in Russia, so it's strange that on bad teams he wasn't at least put in that role for a while to see what he can do. Dakota Joshua only fights players on his own team, like he did vs Hughes in practice last February.
They’re probably thinking they have a bunch of players to evaluate if they can compete at this level and want to find out quick. Roster gets thinned down later in preseason so why not do it right away? Not sure what the problem is. I’m more surprised the flames had that many stars in preseason game 1.
Arturs Silovs showed he isn't anywhere near NHL ready like I've said last year when he came up at the end of the season
Rathbone is an AHL level player. Why does the media/fan base love the guy so much?
Podlolzin is a big bodied, physical bottom 6 player. Any offense he gives you is a bonus.
Podkolzin can be an effective bottom 6 player where as Hoglander has to put up points to be an effective top 6 player. He can't play the bottom 6.
Joshua is going to have a breakout season
Wrote it on CDC the day Podkolzin was picked by the canucks that he was the prospect with the lowest hockey sense when compared to the other prospects selected in the top10. The lack of scoring in his draft year was another issue for Podkolzin.
I suspect that Canucks were caught off guard because they targeted the second best defensive prospect and Trevor Zegras. Once the Ducks picked Zegras VAN was forced to take Podkolzin. Craig Button defended the pick by saying that Podkolzin might end up scoring 60-70 points a season. Well, I guess Judd Brackett and Craig Button failed in making a proper assessment of Podkolzin. Once asked by postmedia Jim Benning said that Podkolzin was the best player available at 10. Jim was also wrong.
It was Matt Boldy. Shit happens, but in VAN there seems to be more shit happening than elsewhere.

Landing Podkolzin instead of Zegras is the reason why you don't try to win meaningless games at March. Especially if the decision maker in some of those games was Markus Granlund scoring winning goals at an expiring deal.
It's funny seeing Canucks fans overreact and even funnier when we lost 10-0. I really wish we miss the playoffs again before December so that we can do a proper rebuild.
To be fair, it's only been one year since we started taking player development seriously, or doing it well, can we blame Podz for how mishandled he was under the previous regime? Also, we keep signing wingers on masse and are unwilling to give him time in the NHL and be patient with him. It's fucking stupid.
(i woudn't say hoglander "skates circles around" podkolzin, their NHL career point totals are comparible:
-hogs = 54 pts in 141 games
-podz = 33 pts in 118 games
…well OK on average; hoglander has .38 pts /game, while podkolzin has .28 pts /game ,so they both kinda suck (not top 6 material
