    No Danielson, Ed or Burgers?!?!

  2. Romanzo71

F to pay respects to Danielson n Ed n Burgz

  3. BaptizedInBud

Danielson and Edvinsson I understand but Berggren should be on the roster.

  4. coltron57

So we potentially signed Justin Holl for a big need at RD just to potentially scratch him in favor of Ben Chiarot playing on his off hand? -sigh-
I hope this is just a way to get Chiarot more ice time after missing time with his father’s passing.

  5. big_phat_gator

I hope Edvinsson doesnt think all that work was for nothing because it sure looks like it.

  6. BuffaloSoldier11

This really goes to show Holl was redundant the second he signed the contract.

    Son of a bitch.

Going into year 5 of Yzerman’s tenure with only 2 of his draft picks.

That lineup excites me not at all.

Down vote me, see if I give a damn.

  8. StevieTokes

I love all of them but I’m underwhelmed

  9. Valace2

Hope Toronto runs their entire regular season lineup.

  10. FragmentEx

Holl is the 7th D I take it?

Curious if this is the opening night roster or if there will be tweaks. Not sure I’m a fan of paying Holl 3.4 mil to ride pine all season.

If we’re gonna push this “win your spot” mentality, it’s troubling to see no one get it when by the eye test they’ve earned it. You can’t argue Ed doesn’t beat out some of the D core. Danielson I can see having to wait due to his circumstance. Though Bergers being out over like Fischer? The dude had some duds sure, but was Fischer notable for even a moment in the preseason? Feels more like the cuts are made because of ELC and waivers, rather than actual merit.

If this is what our opening night roster is, I will be disappointed. Not that I think this group will be disappointing in their play, just that with a strong prospect pool, we might be rolling out a roster that DE-promotes someone while not promoting anyone else instead. We need our prospects to be difference makers if we are going to contend, and this roster demonstrates there is little room for a rookie to make the team.

Pretty dissatisfied with this lineup. Getting real tired of signing vets to take the spots of younger players.

  15. SharcusAurelius

A lot of chafed nipples on this thread. There will be injuries folks. Now put some ointment and coco butter on those things and let’s not lose sight of the bigger picture.

  16. non_target_eh

Weird lineup… all of a sudden we are old and slow.

  17. Not a fan at all if this means Burger isn’t on the main roster. At least to me, Kostin, Fischer, and Copp haven’t done anything to impress me all preseason.

  18. MeTieDoughtyWalker

Are we actually on tv this time?

  19. Shotokanguy

I think Berggren is only out to get one more look at Kostin or Fischer, and Holl is out to get one more look at Petry.

Jeez, lots of jumping to conclusions in here.

  20. SauceHankRedemption

I take it they want the 4th line to be more gritty and Bergs doesn’t beat anyone out of the top 9 forwards. I still think we will end up seeing Berggren in the line up for a significant portion of the season

  21. Demo541

Chiarot, Fischer, and Kostin over Edvinsson, Burgers, and Danielson is certainly a choice.

  22. coltron57

I get that roles on special teams play a big part in roster construction and I know that having quality depth is key in the NHL, but man it feels like we have too many JAGs on this team just for the sake of depth and some of them have term to their contracts too which overlaps with a reasonable timeframe for some of the prospects to make the team. That means waiving or trying to trade your scraps to make the space in a year or two. Holland would be getting roasted in here if this was his team. I’m still very excited to watch and I’m still trusting we’re going in the right direction, but it feels like we could have downgraded some of the depth in exchange for contracts with less term and been in the same spot, but with easier moves to make when Edvinsson, Berggren, Soderblom, Kasper, Danielson, etc. are ready as it feels like by the end of next year all will be in position to have a full time spot.

Let’s not let the overreacting go too far. There are 20 players listed of a 23 man roster. Opening night will very much likely include Holl, yes, but there are still spots for guys to be on the squad. I think it’s unlikely we see Edvinsson until/unless injuries happen. Again, remember…he was pegged to return in November, so why rush anything?

I honestly wouldn’t be shocked if Danielson, Yonny Burgers, and even Ed all make the team.

Recall Danielson can’t go to the minors, so it’s Detroit or Brandon. It wouldn’t shock me at all if he stayed got a few games in, got scratched a few games, etc, before going back to Brandon. His best development is being around the club and getting at least some ice time. Recall that Rasmussen also broke camp in a similar situation with Detroit, played much of the season, and then went to the Griffins the next year for more growth. Don’t be shocked if this happens with Danielson. Don’t be shocked if we waive Fischer for flexibility, too.

  24. Unstep-in-Time

I never thought Danielson was going to get a spot.. Not many 1st rounders, especially at pick 9 start at the NHL level first season. I just hate that he has to go back to Juniors.

  25. TitleistGuy1

I love this except bench Chariot and insert Edvinsson.

  26. ajmeko

I can’t believe the number of people who don’t get that our prospects like Burgers and Danielson aren’t competing with Kostin and Fischer for a 4th line checking role. They’re competing with guys like Copp and Sprong for scoring roles in the top 9, or are otherwise better served in lower leagues playing real minutes doing the things we drafted them to do.

Is Edvinsson better than Chairot? Sure. Maata is probably better than both of them at this point in time, and he might not get many games either.

You can’t say « we need to let them play » and then also advocate for stunting their development by putting them in shitty depth roles.
