A proper explanation of the referee situation is referee salaries are too low. As with anything else, a shortage means prices (salaries) should rise to restore supply / demand equilibrium. Of course, this is an inconvenient truth for businesses / owners.

Hockey Canada didn’t do bc reffing any favours with the BCHL leaving. If a ref officiates a BCHL game, they get a 1 year ban from reffing Hockey Canada games
There are a shortage of Refs in the UK too. Over here they are very much in the headlines atm due to a very contraversial match in the EPL (SOCCER)
I Timekeep at the Langley Twin Rinks for the ASHL. The amount of abuse our Refs get is insane , not only that they are extremely under paid by Canlan. We recently had to reschedule close to 15 games because no refs wanted to come out to be screamed at and under paid. And no one in the higher ups is taking it seriously.

Watching NBA and MLB refs be absolutely trash, NHL refs are incredible.
I'm just worried about the Giants' opponents not getting ready for a check because it's a linesman coming at them.

I used to wonder why ex-players who wanted to stay in the game never went into officiating. They know the game and can obviously keep up with the play, but I guess the last player to do it was Paul Stewart. Now I realize the pay is crap, at least compared to what players get, job security sucks and you have to put up with too much abuse and the league does a lousy job of backing you up. Who’d want the job?
Yea I would love a future (and think we're WAY overdue) where you could just subscribe to your team's games to stream. I'm a Yotes fan in STL and I would subscribe to their service in a heartbeat. I don't need access to the whole league.

I reffed 12 year old house league hockey for half a season(I was 15 at the time) and the coaches and even some parents were totally overboard! I was simply looking for more opportunities to skate and make some money while I’m at it. Just wasn’t worth it.

Struggling for referees for football/soccer here in England. Without officials we have no game.
Ballys is trash and a scam. They charged me the full annual price two days into a 7day free trial. And claimed they can’t refund money since I signed up through Apple. Now wonder they are going bankrupt.
I wonder if Rogers will put their name on Calgary's new arena (ten years too late). My suggestion, Rogers Garden. I'm surprised the condemned building didn't collapse when Nickel-puke was in town this past summer. Who knows, it might still collapse before 2027.
