Would love to have helle, we just couldn’t afford him with all the people we added and signings. Definitely would have been a crazy favorite with him
Thank goodness – as a fan of trying out our current tandem this year, I’m glad to have avoided a pricey trade for what would have been a rental at that price.
Probably the fact no contender can afford him made him decide to stick with the team he’s always known as opposed to being traded to another rebuilding team.
Good for Hellebuyck but also good on the Devils not being the ones to pay up that amount for him for that long.
Good. In todays NHL you should be putting less money into goalies, not more. There is so much inconsistency across the position that unless you have a Vasilevskiy (who may be on the downward himself) it isn’t wise to put money into the position long term. See how the homegrown guys do, add a strong vet with short term left at the deadline if needed. Repeat.

Good! One less nonsensical rumor we need to entertain. We don’t need an elite goaltender: the two we have are wonderful! We just need at least one of them to get hot at the right time…that’s what seemingly every other cup winner does!

Hellybuck truthers from peak offseason in shambles. Always made sense to run it again with VV/Torpedo, too much promise there to not see what we have with another year of experience under our belts.

Glad these talks can be put to rest now. Would have loved him, but no way he was gonna take any kind of pay-cut and no way we were gonna pay him that without using the last year to see how it worked out for him.
I hope Schmid has a great season and makes a lot of people look silly for even entertaining the idea of trading for Hellebuyck. These next few seasons will be crucial for him. However, 60-65 games is extremely difficult in todays game so props to Hellebuyck there
