He hasnt developed well to your answer and they have better options….
guy was drafted 19th, he just turned 23 and a RD blueliner, 72 points in 135 games in the AHL and only gets 18 games with the Sens?? this is just bad asset management by the Sens..total smart zero risk move by the Ducks claiming him, I was hoping the Sabres would nab him if he was still around but I knew the odds were low with so many other teams having first dibs on him..Dorion should have at least have got a minimal return
If you have seen Lassi Thomson's games in an Ottawa Jersey, and compare that with Travis Hamonic's games in an Ottawa jersey, you can not, under any circumstances, say that it's a bad decision to resign Hamonic and push out Thomson.
But lets put Hamonic to the side for a bit.
You want to have 2 power play Dmen on your third pairing, that does not play on the power play on this team, but are gonna play on the PK? Really, it's more than enough that Brannstrom already has to be on the PK. But two of them? On the same pairing? It would be suicide. Your third pairing are supposed to defend. Thomson does not do that. Hamonic does.
Just like Brannstrom, Lassi Thomson should be able to grab a top 4 spot in the league somewhere sometime. But if you look at the Senators D core, it will never be in Ottawa (well, we now know that it's not happening in Ottawa for Thomson). Both of them are just bad fits here. Not bad player, but bad fits.
We sure could have wished for a trade for Thomson. But the fact that Thomson are gone for free is better than not having Hamonic in the lineup at this point.
