Did Gauthier play with Bo and Barzy in preseason at all? Or is him being on the line for practice because Holmstrom is technically in the AHL right now?
Don’t worry, he’s probably just a warm body skating in the spot (as a placeholder for the non-prospect with hands of stone who’s been filling that role).
Probably like others have said and just filling in the spot while holmstrom is down.
However, It’s not like we can write this guy off as some plug, or bust yet either. People forget he’s only 25 and a former first round pick. He’s probably not going to amount to a first line caliber player but there a chance he’s a late bloomer. Has above average speed, size, and shot. Hope he can put it together.
He’s filling in for Holmstrom and Fasching is filling in for Gauthier, if I had to guess.
At least our D and goalies look pretty good
It sucks that they’re stuck with these lines forever now and can’t make any changes if it doesn’t go well. Oh wait.
People get way too caught up in the numbering of the lines. The reality is, the top 3 lines are all gonna play pretty big minutes, just like they have the last 5 years.
And if we’re saying good teams don’t have Gauthier/Holmstrom on their first line, you can just as easily say that bad teams don’t have Lee on their third line. Barzal and Horvat are both making over $8.5 million, they should be able to produce regardless of who’s on the other wing.
I would still move Engvall up, Lee up, and put Gauthier on the 3rd line with Fasching and Pageau
They must be making room for Shane Pinto
It’s not a good sign for Wally for the beginning of the year. He’s been a bad skater to begin with and now he’s gotta work through the acl injury. He’s clearly laboring which is to be expected. But the isles need to hit the ground running
It’s almost as if since 2019, the Islanders have rotated lines #1-3 where everyone plays with everyone. Under Trotz players had defined rolls. Now with Lane, There is a bit more free lancing. Players take a while to develop. Let’s give a kid on a low risk/reward contract a look before we get the pitchforks. Keep Lee on 2-3, and see where we go with Engvall and Gauthier bc both can fly.
If you by rules of 2 then this is fine.
Dude. Don’t forget Nelson. He had nearly 40 goals and 80 points on our weak offense team last season.
