Kinda saw this one coming. We bit the bullet with a shorthanded roster against a top Avs team, and their superstars burned us.
Down a forward, and essentially short 2 defensemen because Bjornfot and Englund had virtually no impact/ice-time this game… really could’ve used Spence, especially on the PP. Doughty and Roy were not creating enough from the back, all the PP chances came from down low.
Hopefully they look better with a proper squad next game.

Not the best showing I’ve ever seen on opening night, but at least we didn’t lose 8-1 like the Oilers. The whole team looked out of sync though, with Talbot being the worst offender. Start Copley in the next game please.
Not an ideal start. A lot to work on. Laf looked good, think pieces are there. Tendy is concerning…Talbot made some good saves but also let a poor one through.

Speaking of guys who shouldn’t be in Ontario why are we so scared of losing 10 combined minutes of Bjornfoot and Englund that we’re keeping all of Spence, Clarke, and Moverare down there
It’s 2023. He’s almost 34. Why is Doughty still playing 25+ minutes? Why not disperse that over the season?

Super irritating that the Kings couldn’t ice a full line up. NHL salary cap rules are dumb as fuck.
Aside from the Byfield goal, not much puck luck in this one. Came real close to scoring twice only for them to score shortly after. PP was pretty dangerous just without the finish… Arvy getting injured 2 practices before the season was felt in this one as well. Get Spence back in the line up as soon as possible.
Avs are stupid good, tip the cap.

Kings looked sloppy, couldnt carry the puck, couldn’t pass, couldn’t set it up. That happens from time to time.
Todd is going to need to get flexible with the young talent. They all looked good in preseason even against other squads starters. England, bjornfot, grundstom, some of these guys are just never gonna be real impactful players over 82 games. It is what it is.
Talbot looked like crap. Copley needs to take over the net. Hopefully we see him next game.
Ah here come the Negative Nancys. IT’S THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON. Yes there is still work to do, IT’S THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON. Considering the trip to AUS and using the entire AHL roster for a lot of the preseason I feel really good about this upcoming season. They will only improve once they get into the groove of things.

Look, I know Copley isn’t on Quick level by any means but can someone tell me why we opened with Talbot in net? The announcers made a note that he saved our season last year, as the camera lingered on him….sitting on the bench. While Talbot failed to stop some soft goals.
This was a tough watch live. The boys didn’t look like they were gelling at all. Like it was abhorrently bad in terms of passing, game management, turnovers, goaltending, defense. Every level of our game that was strong last year seems regressed and I know it’s only the first game but boy did we look unprepared. Todd still can’t get these guys prepared for games? Really disappointing way to start the season
I was watching live but what is this talk of PLD getting a suspension? I didn’t see it and never heard a mention of it
Just buckle up for the season, as per usual with LA Kings hockey. It’s going to be a fun bumpy ride.
– Talbot in net as #1 is what it is. Either Copley pulls off a goaltending miracle this season or they sell the farm for an elite goaltender, even then Todd is probably gonna ride Talbot regardless.
– No Arvy or Kaliyev this game.
– Colorado is an elite top tier team. At the very least it wasn’t a complete blowout.
– Doughty and Kopitar are old. It’s still fun to watch them but they just don’t have that extra gear from the cup seasons.
– It’s literally game 1.
Didn’t improve the defense or goaltending from last year and it was glaringly obvious.
I fell asleep after the 2nd (I’m east). 5-2 isn’t the way. But also it’s game 1. Shake the dust off dudes. I was very surprised to not see Stopley in net. At all even after 4. It’s just game 1. Relax. CHILL BRO CALM DOWN. 😅
I’m honestly a little convinced Talbot got the start so the over would hit for some shadowy league figures 😂
