  1. I’ll say this to your friend in response. I don’t blame Levi.

2 of those goals were deflections. One in tight and the other off the toe of one of our defenseman. And the other two were cross crease passes to players that were wide open on missed assignments.

IMO, there were no “bad” (i.e. soft UPL-like) goals. He stopped everything else that he had a chance on and I’m happy with that. Disappointed, but happy.

  2. Wayne, could our Granato
    have reasonably pulled our goaler
    due to the providing practice
    for the pulled goaler offense
we may be using a lot this year?

  3. In fairness the Sabres looked a bit sleepy while the Rangers came out like they were playing for the cup. It wasn't a terrible effort and I'm sure they'll settle down. Home form was a problem they won't want to repeat. Apart from Joker being asleep on goal 1 and the short hander it wasn't a total disaster. 🤔

  4. Owen “minus” Power back at it again with the softest performance I’ve ever seen. 6’6 and plays like a deer in headlights.

  5. It wasn't how bad they were playing that concerns me so much, it's that everyone in that building noticed nearly 0 pushback. It was like they gave up after the first goal. But hey, I got to meet Brad May, Derek Roy, and Tim Connolly, so it wasn't all bad 😁

  6. They got their $$$ so now why play hard? This always happens in professional sports. They look amazing in their contract year. 🤔

  7. After 40 minutes of play Greenway led all skaters in icetime, Tage Thompson played ONLY 9 minutes!!! By the end of the game Tage only played 17 minutes the same ice time as coaches Son, now the coaches Son did play quite well the object of the game is to actually score goals more than the other team, your 47 goal player can’t score on the bench. Early in the game the 4th line was playing way too much and they were -2, teams that win cups don’t play the 4th line more than top line after 2 periods. This game seriously made me angry, I dislike the Rangers more than any team. Positives of the game were the new players played well, team had big hits and played tough. My Son Peterka scored and hopefully he will continue to get more ice time than his vey little he had last year.

  8. Someone needs to teach Cozens how to fake a shot then when guy goes down you step around him, dude shot 7-8 times right into Trouba’s legs

  9. That was an emotional start to the game (RJ). When I seen the rangers go into a 1-3-1, load up the neutral zone, sit back and wait… I mean, what a joke. The big bad rangers playing the trap in game 1 of the season …. 😂

  10. We should have kept a real coach in Peca and ditched Matt Ellis. All Ellis says is go work hard guys, Peca teaches actual defensive strategies

  11. games like this i have asked for another top 6 guy that can play a heavy 5on5 game, and bump other offensive guys down to a 3rd line. you need offensive depth to breakdown teams that play like this. this was a clinic by the rangers, but only because they werent really challenged correctly in my mind.
if teams want to sit back, you need to get mean, and break them down shift by shift.

  12. The Rangers looked like they were playing with eight guys back in their defensive zone. Sterling effort by them tonight, especially with the blocked shots in the third period. Sabres had no answer for that. I know it’s just one game but the Sabres looked really unprepared tonight and that was disappointing.

  13. The worst part about all this is all the fans who went for our opener to see them take a shit on the ice.
Wish we started this season on the road.

  14. The Rangers played great dam,I was getting so frustrated ,they are 4 real remember this game next time we meet hopefully Coach will have them ready

  15. besides many of the Sabres mistakes over the years up there near the top was letting Peca go and not signing him as an assistant coach I hope they don't regret it

  16. I hope Granato and the boys watched how the Rangers played D as thats how you play D! . Close the gap, be physical and block shots! Also most importantly, stop watching the puck and cover your man!
Excellent point about Granato pulling the goalie, dumb move!
Lastly wake up Granato the 1- 3- 1 D system is what beat the Sabres last season , its your job to come up with a way to beat it!
    Thanks for the video Wayne!

  17. No sustained O zone time. Story of the game. I agree with your 3-star selection of Greenway, Peterka and Benson. Granato should immediately move Benson up with Cozens and Peterka. Olofsson looked lost there. Levi looked average, but they hung him out a bunch. Kudos to the Rangers (although I can't stand that doughnut huffing Laviolette!), they had a good game plan for the Sabre's.

  18. So disappointing, yet it's just one game…but the home opener in a season with such high expectations? Come on! At least they picked up the physical play. Sabres just looked completely outclassed in all aspects of the game. Greenway did look much improved at least, I didn't know he was playing hurt last season.

  19. Greenway was fantastic in game. He was the only player that was playing both sides of the puck effectively. Helped to get the pick up the ice and break up the rangers offensive plays.

  20. I was impressed by a healthy Greenway!! Refs screwed us early but also did look a lil flat and overcomplicated the game

  21. Rangers were employing the dreaded 1-3-1 neutral zone trap all night, which Buffalo always seem to struggle against. Next up is an Islanders team also known for this style… good grief.

  22. THIS MAKES ME SO FRUSTRATED. How do we look like we haven't had one practice and no one skated all of season? Yes, we had some bad calls against us, but where was the gameplan? Where was the will to win? Where were our legs? Gosh it was frustrating to watch. We look so damn slow. Went and watched other games around the league and gosh it was so much faster and cleaner. Our game was sloppy passes, lifeless play, and a bunch of overthinking, Don needs to get out of their heads… And yes the pulling the goalie at the end was so silly… Man they better come out flying next game.

  23. With all this negativity from some fans i want to give a few positives.
-the game doesn't look to big for Benson. He looks like he's 100% ready for the big time.
    -physicality
-1st game, there's still 81 more games. Come back stronger and tighter next game.
I'm not worried. The next one could be another tough one against the Isles though. They're a very strong defensive team and block a lot of shots.

  24. Threw my phone after they scored that shorthanded goal, we seemed a couple of steps behind the rangers all night, couldn't get any pucks on net, not much looked good this game for us, on the brightside, i liked to see the hustle from our third line, benson and greenway seemed to be the only ones that wanted to forecheck, i also liked to see the physicality in this game, it was noticeable upgrade from all of last season. Benson in front of the net pestering the rangers was great and exactly what you want to see, this kid is willing to do whatever it takes to win. We had no help but you are right levi didn't look fantastic, hopefully these home stands from last year aren't coming back to haunt us again. It's first game jitters, hopefully this doesn't become a trend.

  25. Not worried. We started seasons with wins and turned out awful. Im not going to care much about how they look untill American Thanksgiving

  26. Devils started 0-2 last year against Detroit and the Flyers. We wanted Lindy's head on a platter. Sometimes you need a wake up call. Sabres got one last night. Everyone calm down. They'll be fine.

  27. Peterka played well and scored but he will probably be in press box next game, you know how this coach rolls, his favorites have to play the most. 15 minutes was way too much for Peterka.

We will never win a cup having Greenway play more minutes than all forwards. Teams that win cups play their best forwards over 20 minutes!

  28. Wayne, can you do a video and explain if you think icetime matters? Does it matter if 4th liners play more than stars? Gretzky won 4 cups playjng 27 minutes a game, should the oilers have played him only 15 minutes and let the 4th line guys have a chance to play? What I’m asking is, can you score from the bench and why does MacDavid, Mathews, Marner, stars get 20 minutes while our skill forwards play so little?

  29. I feel for Mitsy. He is a play maker but every year he has new line mates. Guys that are really goal scorers.
