I say break up the Brodin-Faber top pair. They are awesome together (brods was +2/ Fabs was +3 on the night, only goal against was Leafs 2nd goal which was a Matthews PP tally), but the rest of the D corps is crumbling so hard and need extra support.

Like if we were at Xcel and Fabs-Brods could matchup against Matthews every time he touches the ice, thats different. But the bottom 4 Dmen were getting burned alive.

Goose and Middleton were each -3. There’s no way we are beating Montreal on Tuesday if that happens again

    (How soon can Spurgeon return???)

  2. sunderstormer

Goligoski is no longer an NHL caliber player

  3. Panarin10

    Rossi has arrived.

Goligoski should be scratched next game.

Better record after 2 games than last season!

  4. TheSkeletones

Reaves is the same piece of shit now as he was when he slammed Suter’s head into the goal post. Fuck him and fuck the soft pussy ref getting his thong twisted for a player telling him to open his fucking eyes.

25% of your ticket price is spent watching Goose and Merrill try to play hockey. Guerin needs to find a third pair by the trade deadline. Whether that’s trying Lambos or Hunt or a trade. Unfortunately he hands NMCs out like candy so we’re probably stuck with Goose.

After the train wreck of every pair that isn’t Brodin – Faber I’m convinced Spurg will be rushed back and battling injury all season as a result.

  7. letoiledunordstars

    not great. moving on!

  8. TheSkeletones

Guerin seriously needs to be made to answer why dudes like Goli are being allowed to play as much as they are.

50/50 so far. We looked great against a team that sucked regular season but made it to the finals. And we looked like shut against a team that was great in the regular season and you know what happens next. Not sure what to make of this except Goligoski is old as fuck.

The Maple Leafs have no defense. Unfortunately without Spurgeon we are short on defense. We played Canada’s favorite team in hockey night. Hard to compete with biased refs, and the combo of weak defense, our star being absolutely non existent this season while theirs is shining bright, and the refs was an absolute recipe for disaster.

Feel bad for Gus, he was hung out to dry by a bad team

Where the heck did the defense from Thursday night go? Lmao it’s like a day and night difference. At least our offense looked good

  12. CitizenStrife

Faber and Rossi belong. Most of the other players did not bring it.

  13. magniturd

Silver lining for me is that there was a ton of chances, they will get it tuned up and connect more.

  14. basketcase-nimrod

well, heck. onto the next one. not gonna worry until december/january.

  15. Can’t win them all, on to the next one. I didn’t dislike what the Wild were doing up until that BS unsportsmanlike conduct call on Goose that totally killed momentum. Rossi is getting better and better, Faber is a stud, Kaprizov will start scoring, there’s a lot of things to be excited for. Spurgeon is sorely missed though, right now we have only one top defensive pair and two suspect ones, to the point I won’t be surprised if Mermis gets a call to shake things up. Only thing is I wouldn’t split Faber and Brodin, they are monsters together and turning an elite pair + a suspect pair into two serviceable pairs isn’t going to work.

Gus had a rough night. The guys were not blocking enough shots for him, and he couldn’t keep up. Toronto’s offense is elite, so it’s partially understandable. They figured him out and took advantage of that.

Faber still looks awesome, it’s probably hurting us right now to have our two best d-men on the same line. Split em up until Spurgeon is back, our defense is ass without him. Middleton does well with him, but looks lost without him. Merrill and Goligoski are awful. Part of me would rather them sit in favor of AHL guys.

Top line needs to wake the fuck up. They were invisible tonight. Move Rossi up there, he’s hungry for points and if we can get him between Kaprizov and Zuccarello, I’d rather find out if it’ll work sooner rather than later.

Loved the last minute « fuck you » goal from Duhaime lol

Overall game could’ve been a lot worse, but could have also been SO much better.

  17. TheSkeletones

Must be nice to have generational players fall into your lap by having a 1OA gifted to you. Shame we’re not an O6 team or Canadian so we don’t get shit

  18. thmsolsen

Does the money Toronto pays the refs count against the cap?

  19. Teh_Blue_Morpho

Did we lose Gaudreau for the rest of the game?

  20. Paladad

Highlights: Rossi goal!!!!! More good scoring from the young guys! (Hartzy counts, he’s under 30, which is Wild young at this point). Brock Faber is simply so fuckin good

Lowlights: Rough penalties, rough non-Faber/brodin defense, Auston Matthews encourages headwear littering

  21. HerbalAndy

To all the pessimists… guess what? We are going to lose games this year, and you need to come to terms with this.

Also things I noticed this game:

Aside from Brodin and Faber(which is amazing) our defense really let us down this game. I think maybe split them up till Spurgeon gets back but we really need to balance that shit out.

Not a single penalty was called on Toronto after midway through the first.. that is text book bullshit homer game management.. there is nothing you can do about this except have a really good penalty kill because this will happen all the fucking time on the road

I will admit I think Rossi played noticeably good and I honestly didn’t know if he had it in him this year.. again it’s early but I’m impressed with him.. maybe we’ll see him on top line with Kap eventually

Gus played fine/okay.. defense let him down on several goals and he had one or two that he probably should have saved.. but he also made some really clutch saves. I think it’s mostly a defensive issue

Zucc continues to make these very low effort passes to Kap(especially on the PP) trying to go through the middle of everything.. almost always gets caught by other team.. I’ve already seen it several times in the first two games.. it honestly happens so fucking often and it’s basically just handing the puck to them

  22. Mental_Square9585

Too early in season to care. Toronto and their overpowered glass cannon of a team can fuck right off

  23. FictionDepartment

With all the defensive fuckery tonight, no one mentioned Addison about anything, and after last year I’ll take that as a game positive.

  24. TheGoodSauce

Poor Middleton getting dragged down and left out to dry by every partner he’s out there with

  25. 43moon

Evason explicitly called out Goose in the post-game press conference
