« The Avalanche reassigned Justus Annunen to the AHL, the team said Monday, giving Ivan Prosvetov a brief opportunity as their No. 2 goaltender.
Colorado is in no rush to send out their backup with a light schedule over the first month of the season. Starter Alexandar Georgiev can handle the workload. Bringing Annunen down to the NHL makes sense, too, when you consider he doesn’t have to clear waivers. He’s only played in four career NHL games. Annunen will benefit from playing in the AHL instead of sitting idle on the Avalanche bench.
Prosvetov, despite lackluster statistics in Arizona, clearly has intangibles the Avalanche desire. It appears the team will give him an audition to backup Georgiev in the short term. The Coyotes selected Prosvetov in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL draft, and the Russian goalie has played in 13 career NHL games. »

It seems like the Avs are in a precarious situation with the backup slot. Makes sense to kick all of the tires to see if we are at Defcon 5 or not.

Makes sense to get Annunen more playing time and experience. That said, does Ivan get the start tomorrow night?

Looking at the sched there is no obvious game to test the new backup until a back to back in late November.
