   Hawks wouldn’t have Bedard if they still had Debrincat.

   We don’t get Korchinski either if we kept Cat. Keeping Cat would have kept us in no man’s land mediocrity, good enough to keep us out of the running for a franchise altering pick, but not good enough to be a playoff team.

   As for reacquiring Cat, I highly doubt Ottawa had any interest trading him back to us. Seeing the package they got from Detroit, it’s worse than getting Korchinski, so the optics would have been terrible for them to lose the trade twice to the same team.
