I’d like to retain cole assuming he keeps up his play this year. bump him down to 3rd pairing next year.
We might have to give him some term but I bet two years at 1.775m would work. Really think we need to retain him for some PK depth and championship pedigree.

Out of those names in the free agent crop, I’d only really be interested in bringing tanev back or pesce over. Pesce is going to cost, butttt I think it’s integral we build this team from the back and he is really the only Dman available that combines strong defence with a good first pass and the ability to finish in the O-zone. He’d instantly make us better and give our 2nd pairing the possibility be an elite one.

If we strike out on pesce or tanev I do see Matt Roy is a no name brand option. I think he’d still make the team better than worse and is likely to cost less. He’s 6’2 and can skate. His WAR% has been trending upwards each year of his career and he is still only 28. A legit option here to look at for us. Solid player, He’s also an American college guy and our locker room has plenty of college guys. good chance he’s interested in us.

I don’t want Ethan bear back. Saw him get walked so many times in his short Canucks career. Really thought he had a lot of potential but I just don’t see him getting better defensively at this age.

Now any of this can legit only happen if we manage to get rid of garland or beau’s contract WITHOUT retaining any money. That part is so key. We can’t continue to sign players while we carry money over from the past. And we can’t afford good players with these expensive low impact wingers.

I have faith in allvin though, I think we’re gonna build a contender eventually here

Just FYI, Dhali has been mentioning Tanev a lot lately, saying to not be surprised if he gets 3 years x 3M in FA and if Canucks express interest. Also said he thinks Canucks will be interested in Zadorov for the left side, he’s a Tocchet type of player (and because Ian Cole will likely be gone).

So there’s a chance mgmt is interested if Calgary doesn’t re-sign them.

(Apparently Tanev turned down an offer that wasn’t good enough, Dhali has been saying “don’t think you can get Tanev for 1M” a lot so maybe that was the offer lol).

Zadorov can be that energy guy for us he throws big hits

  4. Wow, that Chris Tanev would be a perfect partner for Hughes. Imagine if Hughes had a partner like him for the past few years?

I’ll just say that I want nothing to do with any player with that Jets stink on them.

  6. ImAnAfricanCanuck

bring Bear and Tanev back, possibly even this year if Calgary plumets, and we have a formidable defence core so long as we get rid of Myers to facilicate those moves.

I need Tanev back in Van

Really don’t like zadorov. Lazy with the puck, not a good skater and takes a lot of penalties.

  9. TheRealTollah

Tanev really is the missing piece.

Pesce, Dumba, DeMelo, Stetcher, Klinberg … all RHD late 20’s / early 30’s UFA’s in summer 2024.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see us more focused on a longer term LHD solution this summer for the 2nd pair. Our RHD prospects are stronger with McWard, Willander, and Bruzweitcz.

Solve 2nd pair LHD long term then get a shorter term RHD (Tanev or Roy) to fill the cap until one of our prospects can hopefully take over.

I would love Tanev back on the 3rd pairing if he was willing to take a discount. Idk how he feels about the organization after being ghosted by JB on the first day of Free Agency.

Out of curiosity, what would it take to re-sign Hronek in 2024? 7x6m?

  13. Veros87

Bear and Tanev possibly? I wouldn’t risk anything over 2 years for either player.

  14. Intelligent_Base_931

Is it out of the realm to think Willander can have a similar D+1 and debut in NHL like huggy did?

If we’re going with name value alone, you gotta get Brendan Dillon and Dylan Demelo

You can refer to them by their first names:
    Brendan Dylan

    Or last names:
    Dillon Demelo

    Great crop?!?

Half of these will be gone before the summer. Most of them are 33-34 years old.

    Band-Aids.

  17. Blink_Dragstar

Tanev shall return. It is written.

  18. cornbatch69

We’ll have around 30 mill to spend so thats fun

  19. intelligentx5

Imagine letting Tanev walk for nothing…

  20. Tanev on a 2 year deal: what number do you take him at? $1.5m per?
