He isn’t seeing the ice anytime soon regardless of contract.
nhlmodssonjotos
That’s crazy
HairlessDaddy
Are we sure it wasn’t his wife Janet that was making the bets?
thatguy752000
That’s a lot of games.
Ginger-Beefcake
Wonder what the over/under is on him playing a game this season
snoopythefuqdog
Lol the chiclets mush strikes again
luizmcorrea1
Sandro Tonali of the NHL
HairySandwiches
Kinda ironic given they are peddling online gambling and sports betting on all broadcasts nonstop.
Fun_Description_385
Cool; what’re the chances they investigate refs and linesman?
Wouldn’t be surprised if they were betting.
42degausser
41 games for Non-NHL betting, oof that seems excessive
Captobvious75
NHL literally asked for this.
DismalYoghurt233
Wasn’t expecting that whatsoever for such a young guy!
But this leads me to the question of, is this on the government at all? For allowing sports gambling ads to be shoved in our face over the past season?
Is the league and local governments doing enough to curb the gambling going on in our society?…probably not because both are monetizing our addictions.
Particular_Tutor_46
So he’s not accused of betting on hockey and the league takes millions in from sports betting sites… seems a bit hypocritical
Audigy77
Kind of wild that an illegal hit to the head is maybe a handful of games suspended, but a betting violation is half a season.
Survive1014
I had him in a dynasty league. Swapped him this morning. I suspect he wont see ice again anytime soon.
Ill_Association5736
i’m surprised he can start serving before he signs as he is not on a team and therefore not missing any games.
ckncardnblue
Fan duel or draft kings can sign him as a spokesperson.
amateurexpertboxing
I can’t tell if I would laugh more if he bet $5 and won or bet $50,000 and lost. He should claim the commercials made him do it.
OLPopsAdelphia
If the NHL stated that Pinto “…did nothing wrong…,” then what’s the problem and why is he suspended for half the season.
It’s my suspicion that he did something wrong and the NHL didn’t want to divulge the severity of the problem so outside entities wouldn’t be involved in the investigation—giving rise to the question “Exactly how problematic, influential, and pervasive is the issue of sports betting within sports?”
After the last few years of seeing some of the most egregious and trajectory-changing calls I’ve seen in my life, my intuition is telling me that sports betting’s influence goes directly to the top of sports.
Anyone else?
Vegtable_Lasagna3604
No harm no foul? The NHL supports betting so they reap what they sow. Who cares even if he bet on hockey, you expect people to think that you take money from these companies and games won’t get fixed?
Stopper33
Must have watched an NHL game. Bet on this, money line that, betting odds etc.
dre2112
So NHL players can’t gamble? Since when? Listening to Spittin Chiclets all these guys bet and have bet on sports
Chipmunk-Adventurous
That’s insane. You can end someone’s season or career with a dirty, malicious hit and get 5 games.

Kinda wild that Bettman can void contracts
MooseKnuckler1
What a joke. How long before they reverse this suspension just like the pride tape. How the fuck can you ban a guy for betting on different sports, when all you do is peddle gambling on your broadcast and in your stadium?
_makoccino_
Ok, I don’t get this.
>The NHL didn’t divulge the details of Pinto’s transgression, but stated they found no evidence he wagered on NHL games,
If he didn’t bet on NHL games, what does the league care if he bets on other sports? It’s not like they’re anti-gambling, I mean they have a freakin team in Vegas lol
Scamnam
Damn those betting ads got to him
PrebenInAcapulco
It’s a harsher punishment because he used the DraftKings NHLPartnership referral code from the NHL’s gambling ads for bonuses
strangepenguin78
It’s pretty hypocritical to suspend someone for participating in an activity you’re actively promoting and receiving income on… especially when you’ve confirmed he hasn’t bet on his own sport.
Purplebuzz
Shit, did he use rainbow coloured money? The league seems pissed.
ennuiinmotion
I figured he was betting on games to get hit that hard, but the article says he wasn’t betting on the NHL. How the hell did the NHLPA let this be such a severe violation in the contract?
Dolo_Hitch89
Oops
Crazy_Canuck_8888
This is ridiculous. As long as he’s not betting on his own games who cares.

Does anyone know what the NHL/NHLPA rules are on sports betting?
For example: in football (soccer for Americans), it’s forbidden to bet on your discipline (sport type you practice, so football in this case) no matter from what organisation, nation or league, but for example betting on hockey, tennis, horse racing or whatever sport other than football is allowed.
This kinda makes sense to prevent matchfixing in your own sport and to prevent players from going bankrupt, but there is still the ethical/moral question about the behaviour of these athletes… They should lead by example and not be gambling at all in a perfect world… but as we all know, the world isn’t perfect.
GrandpaMofo
Thankfully I just dropped him.
Cornflake1981
I’m a big Newcastle United supporter and our new signing from the summer just got 10 months, but he bet on soccer so a bit different. However, it’s interesting to see the changes in betting sponsorship from English premier League to North American sports, moving in opposite directions.
azulayzma
The way sports betting is penalized more than way more egregious shit shows you that money matters more than people in these systems
