1. As a former goalie familiar with modern techniques, I think leg pads are way too tall. Each goalie could cut at least 4" off the top & not lose protection. Also reduce tye catching glove cuff called a "cheater". Lastly, could reduce width from 11" to 10" without losing protection. Although it should be noted they allowed 12" width for decades until 2005 I believe

  2. Toews doesn't actually lose that much by taking this deal. They only make like 30% of what their actual contract is so (7*7.25)0.3=15.25 vs let's say $9 million. (7*9)0.3=18.9. That's $3.65 million in difference over 7 years.

  3. I was at the game 4 clincher in Nashville in 2022 and ended up winning Toewsers game tying goal puck on Meigrey when it became available. It wasn’t my primary targeted puck from that game, but after Toews showed his true colors during this…..I couldn’t be happier to have ended up with it in my collection. You don’t see this type of selflessness in pro sports any more and I’m a big Toewser fan now for sure!

  4. That was a character win on Saturday night. Absolutely dominated the Sharks but didn’t get frustrated and just kept pressing until they got the late equalizer from Cale. Was watching with a buddy and we were just laughing that the Avs weren’t up by at least 4 goals. Only two games in but this team seems like it has the potential to be really special.

  5. Literally EVERYONE, even our Fanbase😉😉😉 was saying Toews was gone. C-Mac is doing the GM Job. Not Joe pulling the strings, C did this one. That's not saying Joe doesn't have a BIG say, but C-Mac is solidifying his GM role. Watching a few guys leave, like Kadri, players are seeing that taking a little less and staying with a Cup Contender and great Team atmosphere, is a huge point👍💪🏻 This Team is built different. They are playing for each other and we have been building that for the duration of this Core.

  6. It is so good to see a man for whom money is NOT everything!!! I applaud him and the Avalanche for creating such an environment that Devon wants to stay. Thank you!

  7. Everyone completely disagreed with me on another video but 7 mill for a top 5 defender in the league is insane

  8. Toews was huge! Thanks Devon for taking the discount!!! We have the best defensive core in the league next 7 years!

  9. I love this but also know it means somebody is on their way out. I'm not sure how on Earth they're going to resign Mikko/Makar/Byram, assuming Gabe comes back. They already sit at 84M for next year and will still need to fill almost 8 roster spots. Sure hope the cap goes up by a truckload.

  10. At the end of the season when fighting for position these are the types of games that seperate teams…not to mention that it feels like the type of game that got away from them last year

  11. I'm very happy I was wrong about this. I'm glad he is still here. My only concern is the back end of that deal doesn't become the anchor that EJ's deal became and cost us the ability to sign others who are more productive at the time when his production doesn't live up to his contract.

  12. Toews wants legacy not just a one and done like kadri. This move not only keeps the top guys together but galvanizes the team when one of the big guys is willing to take a home town discount to make sure we win and have flexibility

  13. I was so happy to hear the Toews extension got done. I disagreed about the lack of discounts on this team, many of the important players have taken a bit of a discount. C-Mac said this was a priority a year ago but I got a bit nervous when the season started and they hadn't got it done. It made my day/week to read this news and see how happy Devon is to have it signed as well. He's been my favourite player for years now, and this is why.

  14. The hockey gods heard Chris and said they would prove him wrong. But for real massive respect for Toews, i think we should start a gofundme 😂

  15. I was so looking forward to this podcast so I could see how giddy Chris would be to be proven wrong. Sadly, I am already seeing snarky comments online about the term and that we'll be sorry in a few years when he's lost a step or two. I feel like a guy who is this invaluable a contributor during our open-window Cup years maybe deserves to be "overpaid" a little when he's slipped past his prime. Money well spent, and like y'all pointed out – the cascade effect it may have on inspiring other guys who want to win more than they want to make that extra bank, isn't to be dismissed either.

That SJ game was un.real. I, too, was laughing as it became clear that no matter what we threw at him, he was going to either see it or have a divine intervention from the post or his defensemen. I wasn't even going to be mad if we lost, because it wasn't like the effort wasn't there – the guy was just on another planet that night. I feel bad for Blackwood for having a game like that and still ending up on the losing end, but oh well, such a shame, lol! The Avs keeping their composure and just sticking with the plan was really impressive to see.

Mikko has really come into his own these last couple of years. What a shootout goal. Everyone else trying to get a little fancy, get him to slide, and Mikko just skates in and snaps his shot like it's no big deal. Fantastic. Georgie had a huge game too. Overshadowed by the heroics of Blackwood, but he came up HUGE on a number of key shots and then in the shootout, he looked like he was reading their minds and had no trouble at all. His little victory stick-pump was great to see. 100 wins and what a way to get it.

You guys, I am just in love with our team this year. I know it's early. But, dare I say it… it feels like the '22 team again.

  16. The reason hockey players take less money for a chance at championships is because as boys they dream of their name on the cup rather than being rich!

  17. I would've considered an 8×8 for tazer a discount, Tazer for 7×7.25 is grand fucking larceny!

I definitely had that sinking feeling in my stomach as that sharks game went on. If this were the Avs team of last year I don't think the outcome would have been the same, they're absolutely different this year and they proved it on Saturday, I am so much more confident with them sticking to their game to tie it up and win the game.
