What an up and down game. Start with panarin being possessed. What a fucking start. Quick was good for a while but also not a game we could fully blame on him. Also kreider keeps it rolling. Gus has really come in clutch at times with his offense. Love to see it. Happy too to see panarin and laf didnt lose a step after losing chytil. Sooo happy we have tro. Lastly our 4th looked and clicked really well without goodrow. They actually had puck movement and werent stuck forever in our zone but that eye test, i will have to see what advanced says. Also i credible we got a point out of this after losing all momentum. All these points arent dooming, juat some points that i saw in game or across the season so far. Its been a long as road trip with constant flights (fuck the nhl scheduler), we are still in first by 3 points in the strongest division in the league. We had a so-so not even bad game, it happens. If you are dooming about this game, just stop. We dont need these types that only show up when shit is bad. We have truly had 1 bad game all season and we followed it right up with a great game
But for the other parts. Ill start with the neutral, i want to see mika and kreider try to actually set up kakko. Everytime i watch this line, it seems like kakko is relegated to bitch duty of getting the puck everytime its against the boards or behind the net. Hard to produce or get shots when most of the time you have the puck is behind the net fighting off 1-2 guys.
And the bad. Fox and Lindy have show time and time again, if they miss our defense is in shambles. Lindy ***needs*** to be a priority signing. On their second goal, laf got caught up puck chasing and crashed down on schneiders man leaving lafs guy wideeeee open for a free goal. It looked a bit panicked after letting up a chippy cheap goal.
If it wasnt for the Fox injury, i would say it is time for schneids to sit for a few. He started off well but he is just making boneheaded mistakes. Losing track on his guy in the zone leading to good shots. Poor puck movement too. Idk if he is pushing through injury or he is just lost but i think a mental break would wonders for him. And its not a punishment, its just a mental reset.
Final points which fall under a « shit storm happened in 24 hours so hard to point blame »: i cant really point to issues with jones and brodz. Jones has played 1 game all season. I dont like that he comes back and was slotted right with schneider who is struggling. I would have liked to see jones with lindy since he would be able to move a bit with the safety of lindy to cover him. So, yea, cant blame him when he has basically barely played. Same goes for brodz, he gets recalled to immediately have to play our 3rd line with basically 2 newbies in the form of a rookie and an outside the organization player in wheeler. But i dont think they looked awful despite that.
Edit: heres the [advanced stats](https://moneypuck.com/g.htm?id=2023020169), our 4th line did look as good as the eye test. Also top line being outshot 6-9 is not ideal. the line as a whole has to be shooting more. Like i said above, it could be better if mika and kreider actually included kakko in their play, he cant just be puck retrieval duty. Even vince said similar in his last article that it is hard to produce when most of your puck touches are behind the net or on the walls. There is no reason to break up the line as they still have xG% of near 60% which is the highest of all our team lines and xGF is still top 20 in the entire league
Jones and Schneider pairing is a disaster. I was posting about them all game from start. They look clueless and get trapped in the zone every time. It got worse as Minnie got much more aggressive. It was so painfully obvious that they were simply overmatched and Lavi did not make the adjustment. I’d keep Gus with Schneider and move Jones with Lindy. Or move Key up with Lindy and Jones with Trouba. If not then pull Jones altogether and put someone else who can actually defend with Schneider.
I just want our first line to start scoring 5v5 for once. It’s been pretty bad for them.
If anyone told me the Jimmy Vesey was going to be the best player on the ice at any point this season…
