This team showed tonight that it has serious structural problems. No team can give up that many breakaways and claim to be good. Vanacek isn’t good enough to bail us out from double digit odd man rushes

  2. Kornja81

Defense, goaltending, or coaching? Which one is the issue here and which is the easiest to address? Defense is all of the place and lack structure. Goalies can’t steal a game. Lines are questionable…..

  3. Down_Rodeo_

The second shittiest third period only to the caps third period.

The d pairings have to be broken up.

Also, Having a 7 min pp and scoring twice on it and still losing is something. But a stupid short handed goal and 55 odd man rushes against will do that to you.

The defense absolutely sucks at breakout passes.

  4. nostradamefrus

This shit was bad with a capital B A D. Fuck Lindy for devising a scheme that deprioritizes helping the goalie. Fuck the defense for not even attempting to play actual defense in whatever half cocked way Lindy drew up. Fuck going EN when you fucking KNEW we would get scored on. Fuck the « we would crush teams with Jack and Nico » mindset because Jack and Nico ain’t on fucking defense. Fuck the pattycake passes in the OZ giving up scoring chances. Fuck Ross Colton. Fuck Ross Colton x2. Fuck the refs for good measure. Dishonor on you. Dishonor on your cow. I don’t care how good we are with Jack and Nico, this team is not a contender without surgical intervention on defense

  5. mikefred2014

Let’s be honest, it’s questionable if this defense as it stands right now gets us to the playoffs or at last the 2nd round. We can’t pretend it isn’t a glaring issue anymore.

  6. scumbagstaceysEx

I want to know what happened to the team we saw in the first ten minutes for the last fifty minutes? They were skating, winning pucks, forechecking, all the things. And then we just weren’t.

  7. ChannelShot7061

Severson and Graves brought a ton of underrated stability. Luke is gonna continue to learn but he’s got big shoes to fill at the moment.

Even Wood was hated but he brought some toughness.

    See y’all Friday.

  8. I hope Ross Colton walks dick-first into a thresher. With that out of the way, I’d be okay with never referencing anything that happened tonight ever again.

  9. FARTING_1N_REVERSE

I saw 2 teams on the ice today:

    – One team that won the Stanley Cup 18 months ago.
    – The other who was only a “contender” on paper and nothing more.

This was boys against men game, and we looked absolutely awful after the 1st. Our huge gaping hole on D is becoming ever so apparent, and is something that needs to be addressed or this will continue.

See you all at the Rock on Friday.

  10. ryanwest19

Biz is right. Absolutely pathetic. Team structure is non existent and we just try and out score all of our problems

  11. poHATEoes

Fuck I miss Graves and Severson…. you know actually defensemen and not forwards who are to slow to play as a forward (Hamilton)

  12. youres0lastsummer

hughes nico nosek and miller out late at night high altitude. we’re gonna be fine stop dooming so soon omg

  13. gleeson630

It’s so funny that it’s was only Vitek who was yelling at Wood for the hit.

  14. jonaesthetic

GGs. A lot to take away from this one, but to sum things up — good game of learning for the team. Being down your top 2 centers plus playing at that high level of intensity is exactly what this team needs. Really looking forward to seeing how they adjust the rest of the season.

  15. Spoonbread

I want off Lindy’s wild ride. Its must see TV for neutral fans but is garbage to be invested in.

You can keep complaining about goaltending being the problem all you want but any given night this year a star goalie is still giving up 3 with how dogshit the defensive structure is. Vitek stopped it from being 10-3 or worse. Maybe the system is too hard for most players to execute,(lol Hynes excuse) but the end result is ugly.

It reminds me of the pre-cup Caps where we’ll make the playoffs and I wouldn’t be surprised if we win more Divisions than not in the next 8 years but all that style and no structure is what’ll get exposed in the playoffs.

  16. dudehimself3

After that performance the D pairings need to be changed. Some guys need to look in the mirror and get serious and the system needs to take way less risks.

  17. 4SK1N5

I’m sad the Devils lost, but I feel better knowing that the Flyers gave the Sharks their first win of the season with Blackwood in net.

  18. TheNightRain68

What a sloppy ass game. I understand being down Jack and Nico is obviously going to hurt, especially against a cup contender, but we play way too sloppy on the offensive zone. Nobody can finish anything and nobody can keep possession of the puck. And the excuses end here, it’s time for some of these players to have a fire lit under their asses. Mercer and Palat being the main culprits, but Timo could absolutely be helping out more.

As for the defense, bag skate the fuck out of them tomorrow. I understand the defense isn’t as good, but yikes the amount of times they hung Vitek out to dry is alarming to say the least. It’s time to have a change. We can keep switching the lines up even when everyone was healthy but for some reason the pairings have been the same all season. Bring up Nemec, switch the pairings, try something new. Whatever it is right now isn’t working. At least, IMO, this clears up the goaltending vs defense debate, because Vitek has bailed these guys out too many times so far.

With that being said, 2/4 on the road trip isn’t bad, especially considering we were down 2 of our best players for 3 of them and we lost on a back to back and to a cup contender. But shit’s gotta improve. This team is too stacked even without Jack or Nico to be playing a game like this. It’s time for these players to step up and make some big changes.

Finally, fuck Colorado. We took some dumb penalties, but damn those players are scum.

  19. MartysBetter29

The system is a fucking mess right now

  20. baconpoutine89

At least we didn’t lose to the Sharks.

  21. antnythr

It feels like there’s nobody on this team that really knows how to step up and be clutch right now. This team needs to learn how to win without Jack.

  22. DueProfessionals

First things first missing your top 2 centers is Probably the worst combo to lose (maybe both goalie close either way). Still gotta take the positives here, Luke seems healthy after the hit and fast beat Mac to that empty net puck, Mikey continues to make the most of the oppertunity, the Dawg had another night with a nice net drive. Didn’t hate VVs play tonight, probably wanted the low glove one back but for the amount of rush chances the devils gave up they didn’t do him many favours. Let’s not put our energy towards doom posting and instead – Prayers for Nico and Jack.

  23. DevilJacket2000

This was a bad way to lose a game. They played like they’ve never even been coached at all.

  24. MountainBaker8217

I will start off with…**FUCK MILES WOOD AND FUCK ROSS COLTON AND FUCK ALL THEM AVS**:

    * Now onto us. Sigh. Look I said this in the GT, I didn’t think we were gonna pull out a win tonight, given that the Avs hadn’t scored anything in like their last three games and they were out for blood and that we’re still sorting out our defense and our game without Nico/Jack.
    * Then that second period happened, and I changed my tune and I wanted to win because fuck all of them.
    * Odd man rushes – ***bad***. Mind boggling passes in the defensive zone – ***bad***. Inability to get the puck out of the defensive zone – ***bad***. Taking far too many penalties against one of the best offensive teams in the league – ***bad***.
    * Lindy needs to do something about our defense. Like switch up the pairs or something. And focus practices on our defensive play in our zone. Like what is so hard about **get the puck out of the zone**. We choose the wrong pass every god damn time.
    * **The one thing I remember about Tatar and the boys when they talked about Nico last season was that playing with him made them more defensively responsible. It made them want to mimic his play, made them be more cognizant of their defensive play. Clearly not having Nico in the game is having an effect there.**
    * Now, we still got two PP goals without Nico/Jack.
    * Vitek is absolutely one hundred percent ***NOT*** the issue. We gotta stop leaving him out to dry like this. Really gotta commend Vitek. This game was not on him at all.
    * Good to see offense from Dougie/Timo/Toffee. I thought even though he had an assist, Jesp was a bit quiet tonight. I one hundred percent see him getting the A sometime in the future permanently, but really need him to step up as a leader on the ice when Jack and Nico aren’t there.
    * Speaking of nonexistent men, when exactly will Ondrej Palat show up?
    * Hope Luke is actually okay and its not another Nico/Jack situation.
    * Same with Kevvy.
    * I thought the first ten minutes of the first period were great hockey by us. And then…
    * Hated how we responded in the third when we went down one and then down two. There was no urgency. There was no passion or push or anything. We barely spent time out of our own zone.
    * I’m not going to get too hung up on this game, but I think it very clearly shows the areas we need to work on and I hope the boys look at tape from this game and clean their shit up.
    * I do want us to absolutely destroy the Avs when they come to the Rock though.
    * Once this team figures out its defense, we’re gonna be juggernauts.

Now we don’t play until Friday. I think we’re all hoping to get some real news about Nico and maybe see him practicing with the team. Hope the boys use these two days between games to get their shit sorted. We need one hell of a revenge game against the Caps.

  25. chefboleson

i really dont see how you can walk away from that and deduce that the team simply ‘can’t hang’ with other tough teams without jack+nico. as good defensively as they are, those 2 weren’t the ones preventing 10 odd-man rushes and creating half-way decent breakouts and zone entries. for the most part, the d was actually good with man-on-man and breaking up chances but there can only be so many turnovers and odd-man breaks (which there was a comical amount of) before it bites. the offense was abysmal . forechecking was decent but zone entries and shot creation were atrocious and the talent that shouldve very easily been putting any defense on their heels even without those 2 were invisible. bratt sucked, mercer sucked cock and balls, palat sucked, timo should’ve been better. even with all that it was winnable going into the 3rd, they should’ve came from that hectic 2nd fired up but instead they were rattled and dead . vitek couldve been better too. and fuck TNT and ross colton and miles and mackinnon and colorado . alright onto the next GN

  26. danamerr

Sometimes i wish we had someone like Hathaway or Jeannot on the team to fuck overaggro morons like Colton up for shitty hits

  27. gothenburgpig

A few years ago I stayed up late to watch the Devils give up nine goals to Calgary. I’ve seen the bottom and this isn’t it.

  28. FreeOJ32

The team is as talented as anyone but is also soft and plays defense like a beer league team.

  29. TheDopestTrip

For whatever the reason or reasons everyone’s mentioning, I will say this; this team has yet to look like it did last season. When we were down in a game, I never felt like it was over, yet this team right now, even with a lead, I’m anxiously waiting for them to get scored on and blow it. Reminds me of the Devils a couple years ago. I hope they sort it out. We shouldn’t be so reliant on just Nico and Jack, if that’s the case, then we don’t deserve a playoff run again, not to mention that doesn’t solve our defense and goalie issues.

  30. Kornja81

That Palat contract looks worse and worse every game……

  31. Fisktor

To many players are bad at the same time, and without jack (and nico) its showing and leading to losses

  32. Zajac19

Scratch palat really shake up the room

  33. TronVin

Palat brings veteran presence* and grit*

    * = unskilled liability at a huge price tag

  34. TheJerkInPod6

What else can you say really? Yeah, our two best forwards are out but that doesn’t explain why we can’t play defense to save our lives and give up shorthanded goals like like they’re going out of style.

The TNT panel was spot freaking on in the postgame. They have obvious problems as a team that get glossed over when Jack Hughes is helping us score 6 goals a game. But those problems become that much more obvious when he’s gone. We can’t score our way out of this one, we simply have to fix the issues. These real, tactical issues that lead to the constant breakdowns on the ice.

And THIS, boys and girls, is why I did not want Lindy back behind the bench again this year, as much as he earned it.
