  1. eh, he won the cup, he’s owed a bad take or two at minimum

His take on the boarding is fine. It looked uglier than it was because Hughes didn’t brace for contact properly. Turning away from the hit last second was boneheaded and Hughes put himself in a dangerous position.

His take on the crosscheck is dumb. That’s a five any day of the week, and SHOULD be a five. Ross deserves whatever suspension he gets. I’m guessing he gets a game.

I might be in the minority opinion but I mostly agree with Bednar in the sense that scrums where dudes are battling crosschecks happen almost every damn game, especially after a questionable hit, or a post whistle scrum.

Colton went in hot assuming he was about to be crosschecked but instead it was Timo Meier who was coming in a lot less aggressive than Colton probably thought and so there was zero resistance to it, and so his crosscheck went right up.

It deserved the penalty because the end result is the end result, crosscheck to the face but it wasn’t just like Colton decided to turn heel and crosscheck a guy in the face for no reason.

I think the best outcome happened, and I think it mainly happened because he got tossed. If Mangiapane only got 1 game for what he did then this definitely didn’t deserve a game.

I will say though, I loved how gritty they were last night. Obviously you don’t want to take major penalties but I really liked the physicality they showed.
