This and his agent on social media. That’s not how trades work and it’s actually less likely to happen now just out of spite.
I remember that game in 2016 where Chris Neil was digging for a rebound and Phaneuf grabbed him in the scrum as if he was going to rough him up, then they smirked at each other and just kinda skated away. Didn’t think much of it at the time but in hindsight I’m convinced they knew they were gonna be teammates later that week.
I counter all your proposals to trade for two more 3rd pairing defensemen with a proposal to actually change and make our defense younger while not giving up any term.

By Christmas hopefully Reaves is buried and trade is immediately cap compliant. It’s a gamble for sure, but you’re basically upgrading Brodie for a 1st and adding Zadorov at 50% for a 2nd if the leafs don’t re-sign Hanifin or win say 2 series.
Edit- Zadorov and Edler are 5th/6th defensemen, Treliving signed on and signalled changes to the defense, not changes to the 3rd pair. Brodie (and Klingberg) is the only guy with a big enough cap hit to signify the change. The reason I center a trade around Brodie and not Klingberg is because the both have 10 team no trade lists, I think there is a much more realistic chance Brodie will go to Calgary.
