Orlov and TDA = proven disaster
Orlov and Chatfield = look pretty much like the 3rd pairing you’d expect to see on a a perennial top 5 team
IDK, this ain’t rocket science. If I had to critique any aspect of how the roster has been managed since Rod took over, it’s the third defensive pair. We drafted Fleury, who played fine but always seemed to be on a short leash for no apparent reason.
Then bring in guys like Edmundson and Hakanpaa but don’t keep them around, and then we end up with some dude in camp who looks great and I’m thinking « this dude might be better than Brett Pesce »…..except we cut him and yeahhhh, that was Gustav Forsling.
And I’m not saying Orlov is a bust or anything, but we could’ve kept Gostisbehere for way less than we paid Orlov.
TL;DR: Rod and/or DW don’t seem able to believe what their eyes tell them about depth d-men. IDK. It’s weird.
