Glad we only signed Kane to a one year deal. Strap in folks!
dudewithchronicpain
It passed a physical so let’s hope we know what we’re doing if not it’s a one year low risk signing and we have the room for it.
Balance47x
Kane is built different.
SevenStringGod
I fully expect Kane to be the one player to successfully return to form from this surgery, simply because the hockey gods seem to be in full chaotic neutral mode this season and this would balance out them getting Bedard.

These dudes were all trash except jovanovski

If anyone can it’s Kane, and I would’ve said that if he signed somewhere else too
Kitchen_Yak_676
He’s the best one of all of them.
Plus he would have been the second leading scorer if he played last year on the Wings. And he was injured at the time. Low risk, possible high reward.
doubeljack
Different sport, but Andy Murray successfully returned and has competed for several years after hip resurfacing.
Kane is also smaller and lighter than most or all of the hockey players who have had the procedure. I think there’s a decent chance he’ll recover enough to play at a competitive level.

I suspect Cat is right when he says that if anyone can come back from this surgery, it’s Kane. That dude is a machine… he’s had some some fairly serious injuries in the past and didn’t miss a step coming back from those.
Of course, that doesn’t mean he will bounce back, but I’m hopeful anyway.
NomadicNematode128
Now how many of them are arguably the best america born player of all time?
Dtales
What surgeries did Seguin and Benn have on their hips?

If anyone can comeback from this it’s Kane, he passed his physical and he’s such an elite athlete.
I said it elsewhere but if he would’ve signed elsewhere and news broke he wanted to play in Detroit but they didn’t offer him 2.75 for one year I would’ve been upset.
No such thing as a bad one year contract

Other than Backstrom, those guys listed had other injuries at play and played a much different style. My goodness it was a miracle Kesler played into his late 20s given how he played the game.
I expect him to defy the odds just because someone has to.
RonnieWojo
Everyone on this list except Hagelin played over 1000 games. Fun fact Mike Sillinger, who also played over 1000 games, had this surgery as a quality of life at the end of his career.
We won’t know if Hagelin would have come back because of his eye injury but Kane is attempting to come back faster than anyone else. Fingers crossed it works.
kermitthefrog57
Kane got that dawg in him tho it’ll be fine

So you’re saying there’s a chance…

The real question is – will Kane play more games than Fabri.
GiantDongDK
Those players started to suck before the surgery to be fair. None are on Kane’s level.

Kane wants another cup.
Let’s take advantage of his drive, motivation and inspiration to « ride the wave ».
We have left the desert…
The lands ahead are fertile…
We are starting a new chapter in the Red Wings legacy.
Mr. Kane, welcome to the Wings, have number 88 (classy move by Daniel Sprong), let’s take a run for the cup.

To be fair, some of those retirements post hip procedure listed, weren’t even do to the procedure itself. Carl Hagelin retired from the injury he sustained taking a stick to his eye, Ed Jovanovski took a backseat to a youth movement, so to lump all these guys together and blame « hip resurfacing » as the reason they no longer play, is kind of dumb.

It’s only for the rest of the year and I don’t think it’s just for points, his veteran status in the league will help the young players of Detroit more than most realize.

We already know it’s a bad move. On the other hand, it lets players know, Stevie isn’t afraid to bring guys in if they want to come over for some fun.

How could you

Idc what people say, Kane is one of the elites, he is built different. These guys are psychotic about their sport and nothing will stop them from playing
fargowebleaf
Maybe other than Backstrom, Kane was significantly better than these players pre-operation.
