Crazy how the Ottawa, Buffalo has been in a rebuild for such a long time it seems like, while Detroit just made massive moves and Signed Patty Kane, it's wild that just since 2019 Yzerman has turned that franchise around enough to the point where they are breaking away from the Atlantic pack of teams that are in "rebuild mode".
You brought up some valid points. I agree that they should've been better this year.
Trading Debrincat was a horrible idea, which for some reason everyone applauded them for doing it.

Contracts were too expensive to be in 8th spot. They haven't gone on their road trips yet, Sweden isn't counted as a road trip. We'll see how western US and western Canada road trips treat them.

Yeahhh, absolutely agree with every point you mentioned here, Nathan. Getting tired of the excuses of “bad bounces” or “we weren’t ready to play”. You should ALWAYS get your players ready before the game starts and play a solid, consistent 60-minute game of hockey.
Listen, even if they lost but gave it their all, I wouldn’t sweat it, all teams go through it, right? However, when the team gets flat out embarrassed like that, and at home ice to boot, something’s gotta give.
I have given plenty of rope to DJ being the guy to coach this team to make the playoffs, but this has gotta stop. What he is doing is not working and it feels like it’ll be a wasted season (again!) if upper management doesn’t do something and soon.

Analytically their finishing is actually really good. That’s the scary part. If their shooting percentage was average they would be even more trash. Please get this guy out of here
Ottawa doesn’t need anything. They need a miracle
Problem is Staios and Andlauer wanted to keep Dorion so they could have the "two-headed monster" of a GM and a PHO. Now the GM is gone and you don't hire the coach before the GM. Plus everyone loves DJ and the Oshawa Generals' owner is now part of the Sens ownership group which can only benefit him.
They tried bringing in support by adding Ben Sexton and Alfie to the coaching staff so its not like they've done nothing, but they need to hire a GM before making more substantial changes.
I really don’t want DJ as the coach we simply can’t win with his “plan” and style, but we haven’t fired him yet because our owner wants to do things right and not hire a coach that will only be where for a year. I think we just need something besides DJ personally I think he should have been fired in 2022, we also need to acquire a solid middle 6 2 way forward and a defensive defensmen if we are still going by DJ plan.

Sens fans have wanted DJ gone for the past 2 – 3 years, it’s mind blowing how he’s been able to linger in the capital for this long, especially when there have been much better coaches fired for much less.

My impression is that the management is waiting until the off-season to hire the new general manager, who choose the head coach.
They really need a true top RD. Instead they signed Tarasenko and overpaid Zub… Maybe they should trade Tarasenko for a defenseman and hire a new coach?

Right now if I’m Ottawa I’m looking at Woodcroft and Evason being free agent Coaches and thinking why the hell do I still have DJ smith? Both those guys have proven that they are great coaches and can get the best out of people, this year for them just got shit outta luck with crappy teams given to em, y not take a chance on one of these guys for rest of the year and see what they can do with what’s provided?
Sens fan here. I'm at that point in which I don't believe we have the intestinal fortitude to win against ANY team. Same shit every season. DJ needed to go eons ago.
Not sure if you live in Ottawa but believe me, people of Ottawa are crying for the Sens to fire DJ. One slight unfair thing you said (doesn’t make it any better though) is the Sens are last place but other than the Capitals, the Sens have played 4 or 5 games less than most of the other teams. However, those games in hand will be losses if DJ Smith is still the coach. Starting to wonder if you are right that he’s invincible. The only possible reason I can come up with is that they have a particular coach they want and they have to iron out the contract OR they don’t want to have another rookie coach (like they have had for the past 15 years) OR both.

I had my blowup this morning/early afternoon. I have had enough of the poor choices, so I put on my GM hat, and laid out what I would do in such a circumstance.
Not only were the oilers playing decent, woodcroft also had a .65 winning percentage which is STELLAR. he still couldn't keep his job. How DJ still has a job baffles me
He is staying as coach for the rest of the year because you cannot fire him, and then hire a new guy without a GM. The new GM would probably fire the new guy that you hire.
DJ should have been replaced last season, but the ownership change last season and the GM replacement this season is what's keeping him in. You dont want to replace your coach while you don't have your GM position filled because they will want to bring in their own coach.
They need to bring back the coach that looks like a bond villain
I am SHOCKED that the Senators didn't immediately contact Woodcroft as soon as he was fired. That guy would turn Ottawa around in a heartbeat and yet they stick with DJ.

Jbd and hamonic are brutal for us. We wont be a 90+ point team if those guys keep playing as much as they have been. Other than that we're fine. Offense had an off night and all of floridas goals were fluky
Couldn’t agree more with every point you made Nathan. I’ve been a Sens fan since 92… I’ve never been so over and done with this team. We have suffered through the lean years of a rebuilding team, the players this team has assembled are too good to be this bad… now I’m not talking cup caliber at all… BUT they should be better then what we have witnessed this year. Whether it’s the coaching staff that needs to go or even a big trade to shake things up. At this point all cards are on the table, they need to do something to shake things up.

Dude I ducking hate being a sens fan. It’s so frustrating especially after getting our hopes up with a great preseason.
