No, he’s lifting the stick to get it out of the way

  2. sniff-my-babcock

They can’t add a penalty on the review, only determine if it was a high stick

  3. BruinsFan_08

He literally grabs the guys stick and hits himself with it. No penalty.

  4. Atomic_tortoise

No OPs never had a stick to the face that shit hurts

  5. It’s not embellishment, he took a stick to the face so he’s not faking. He lifted the stick though so it’s no penalty, but I don’t think he intended to hit himself. That’s the right call after the review.

  6. h0ckey87

He’s trying to throw the stick behind him, watch the hand movement

  7. togocann49

Not at all. He was trying to get stick out of the way, not to hit himself. He wasn’t trying to draw a penalty, though he may have closed his hand on another players stick, and that’s a no-no

  8. Lost-Horse558

Lots of opinions here from people who have clearly never played a fast paced sport at a high level. The guy got a fucking stick to the face unexpectedly. That’s exactly how you would respond.

  9. TucsonTacos

Its not like he immediately crumpled to the ice from it

  10. Isn’t it a penalty to hold (or grab) another players stick?

  11. Schwinston123456

… what? He got hit in the face by a stick. Ever been hit in the face by a stick? It hurts.

  12. shwysdrf

I don’t think he tried to hit himself on purpose but once he got hit he tried to sell it as hard as he possibly could.

  13. iloveblondehair

How about we smack you in the face with a hockey still and see your reaction. I can assure you from experience it doesn’t feel good

  14. They were going down like flies. More like soccer players than hockey players.

  15. ChuckFeathers

Show it in realtime, slomo is very deceptive as to reaction *time*..

  16. If not embellishment then definitely it’s embarrassment

  17. stephenlipic

Grabbing your opponent’s stick is a penalty, but I guess they can’t call it after the fact?

But you know those refs are sending a memo to the rest of the zebras.

  18. Fastsmitty47

Shouldn’t be a high stick or embellishment either. Looks like he unintentionally swung the stick into his own face

  19. Motor-Post-8845

Not embellishment but definitely an owie

  20. chemicalsubtitle

Should have been a 4 minute penalty against the Wings.

  21. CadillacsandBourbon

It wasn’t even good acting. He should get the double minor and a game misconduct.

  22. Let me hit you in the face with a stick while we’re movin in the heat of things and let’s see if you react, OP

  23. onlysmallcats

I’ve never played hockey, but I think I’d react the same way if I took a piece of carbon fibre to the teeth.

  24. vanyel196

It looked to me like Razor was trying to throw the stick off and ended up eating it. It was the right-ish call as much as I hate to say that. Overall? Lot’s of trashy plays from the rangers.

  25. frocarter

Fuck you, you’re getting a fucking embellishment!

  26. hardware1197

If you are saying he purposely took the opponent’s stick and smashed his own face with it – that’s a stretch. What happened after he smashed his own face with his opponent’s stick wasn’t embellished- it looked real as fuck.

  27. poodletown

you think he deliberately hit himself in the face with the stick? he was pushing the stick away. Sure, not a penalty on either player but you can’t listen to these TNT guys and learn anything about reality.

His hand was moving the stick AWAY from him.

  28. Bigcarts

He was certainly not selling it. As someone who played hockey their entire life, getting hit by a sti anywhere without protection can hurt a tremendous amount. Especially in the face. You dont realize the pain until youve had it happen

  29. StumptownRetro

No. It’s just a minor infraction for grabbing the opposing players stick. Carry on

  30. HandBananan

Wow, an actual case of the old big brother trope, « why are you hitting yourself? »

Keep hockey not soccer. That’s embellishment fo sho. Maybe the worst ever.

  31. StevenCC82

No penalties on the play. He got hit but he did it himself

  32. 35Richter

No. If anything it should be 2 minutes for holding the stick

  33. Penalty for grabbing another person’s stick

  34. bluAstrid

    Rule 8.1 – Holding

Holding is any action by a player that restrains an opposing player by impeding their progress whether or not they are in possession of the puck, or by such action prohibiting their ability to pass, shoot, receive, or otherwise propel the puck.

A player is permitted to use their arm in a strength move, by blocking their opponent, provided they have body position and are not using their hands in a holding manner, when doing so.

While players are permitted to block an opponent’s stick with their hands, arms, or body, they are not permitted to hold an opponent’s stick.

A Minor penalty will be assessed to any player who holds an opponent in any manner.

**A Minor Penalty will be assessed to a player who holds an opponent’s stick. This penalty will be assessed and announced as “holding the stick”.**

  35. No. He didn’t act it up. There was no fall to the ice or anything, he just went to the bench. I doubt he even intended to hit himself.

But the ref was correct (hurts to say) to overturn the double minor.

  36. OG_MajinVegeta

He tried to move the stick out the way but failed and inadvertently smacked himself in the face

  37. RPsgiantballs

Not sure if serious . Dude took a stick in the mouth

  38. Play it in full speed. These slow mo penalty reviews are useless

  39. B0tzilla

Definetly no. While he did effectively lift the stick to the face himself, I think it is quite clear he did not intentionally hit himself with it. He was trying to protect the puck and fight of the forechecking stick. At the same time it is not a high stick since the forechecker did not hit him in the face. It was Raymond himself. It just happened to be the Rangers players stick he did it with. Correct calls on the ice.
