Damn. That sucks to hear that. So he’s basically saying they didn’t even try? Would’ve been awesome to see Bedard and Kaner on a line. Maybe some day…

I mean…he chose to leave. I get that he wanted to chase a Cup elsewhere, and he deserves to have that choice and go whichever route he chooses, but you can’t be upset when you leave and the organization decides to go a different route.

Also the statement from Vlasic, that it feels more like an open forum in the locker room rather than waiting to hear what Kane and Toews have to say, is exactly why Davidson decided to move on from that era. He wants the future leaders to develop.

I hope Kane is able to play some fun hockey with Cat in Detroit. He deserves that.

Hard to read and I still wish these guys were around(especially Kane to provide some offensive help) but I think it’s important to note the difference in prestige between the guys mentioned and Kane/Toews.

There are veteran players, and then there are first-ballot HOF/have been with the organization their entire careers, veterans. I mean these guys are going to have statues outside of the UC soon enough.

I still like the route the Davidson decided to go. Let these guys grow into leadership roles. Would Bedard and the other young guys have still developed fine with Kane and Toews on the squad? Probably. But this is the route we’re on now so no sense in dwelling on it.

The entire point of this season is for the younger guys to take hold of the locker room and grow. And sprinkle in another top 5 pick. When your in the shadow of Kane/Toews that leadership development naturally takes longer.

Tough to see but KD was very clear he felt it was time to put the past in the past and look toward the future. I would have loved seeing Kane and Bedard playing but at the same time it makes sense to let them go and focus on future players.

After joining the Red Wings, this is just adding insult to injury.

I see some people saying that it’d be hard for the young players to take a hold of the team and make it their team, but it also makes you wonder how much pressure it would have taken off of Bedard to have a healthy(if he’s being honest) Kane or Toews around him and soak up some of the spotlight. We’ll never know but it’s worth a thought while I’m bored at work! Ha

What would’ve helped Bedard more? The greatest American born player of all time or a older player who didn’t last more than 20 games due to their off ice issues? Or how about an incredible injury prone player in Hall?

This is a terrible look for Davidson no matter what you thought before the season started.

Kane and Toews should’ve been Hawks for their entire career.

Sorry, best we can do is Corey Perry. Good luck.

  10. Do people really not think the Aldrich scandal has *anything* to do with Davidson moving away from Kane & Toews on the ice?

Whether we like it or not, those two had a connection to the scandal and I don’t think it was surprising or wrong for Davidson to completely cut ties with them as players once their deals expired. I don’t think Kyle was lying when he said he wanted to start the Bedard Era with a fresh set of veterans in the room, but I think a big part of that comes from wanting to give the organization as a whole the chance to grow away all those previous issues without anyone in the spotlight that may serve as a reminder.

In an alternate (and beautiful) timeline where Aldrich doesn’t exist but everything else with this rebuild plays out the same (moving Cat and Dach, winning Bedard, building a stacked prospect pool, etc.), there is no doubt in my mind that Kane & Toews come back and retire as lifetime Hawks.

I thought Kane wanted to win another cup? But i could see him doing one more year on the hawks before he hangs em up as a final farewell. But i do think its more important for Connor and the guys to get ready to handle things themselves

  12. IDquad8819

Sounds like he kinda wanted to be back. Which matches up with what people like Emily Kaplan and Barstool Chief reported after he was traded. He only decided to waive after he was told they wouldn’t re-sign him

  13. Creacherz

Not a hawks fan, but I always thought those two would never wear another jersey man. I just envision « 19 » and « 88 » in the Chicago reds forever

  14. Jerry_from_Japan

Thing he has to understand is that those guys, Lang, Perrault, Lalime…..those were the same sort of guys the Hawks brought in with this rebuild. Not guys like himself or Toews who have the type of history they do with the team. They were guys not affiliated with the team beforehand, near the end of their careers.

  15. Commander_Chaos

Cool, cool, cool, cool, Im just going to go over here and scream in Seth Jones and Corey Perry………………………………………………………………………………………………….

  16. EddyTheDesigner

Fuck man. Part of what helped me accept Kane being gone was believing he wanted to chase Cups. haha I understand and respect KD’s decision. But it certainly sucks to think we could be seeing Kane feed Bedard right now. Especially after seeing how 2 of the 3 vets brought in are already gone.

  17. AndyThatSaysNi

I get being humble, but he does realize the quality of names he listed is significantly different than his and Toews’s name in terms of veteran leadership and how connected to the team they are, right? The vets we assembled is actually a closer comparison to the list he named.
