Read the main factor for Vancouver getting Zadorov was the Canucks were willing to take on the entire salary remaining, while the Leafs were asking the Flames to retain some of it. The Leafs probably had a better offer but that one demand of retaining salary was the deal breaker.

HOLY SHIT! I honestly thought we’d never get him. This is a HUGE W for the team. There is no way this doesn’t help the Canucks build on their success this season. Not saying he is THE missing piece for cup contention, but man… what a boost to the roster for practically nothing. 👍🏻👍🏻
Not Canucks fan but I'm really impressed with what the new leadership in Vancouver is doing. Would be good for the franchise if they go deep in the playoffs this season.

I think the flames got burned; How often will a third play in the show, let alone a fifth, and this guy checks a lot of boxes. First round, 16th overall, in 2013. When Calgary paid a third to get him, I saw that as a win for Tre and getting that third back at this point seems like a win that walked out the door. Keep the fifth and make the third a second. Yes, we are going to let him go, but it doesn’t have to be now, and it doesn’t have to be to you.

That’s insane. Trading within the division alone should have driven up the value more no?. It’s almost like management was doing VAN a solid for no apparent reason other than to dump him and get him out of there (which could be the reason, who knows) Either way, you get offered the trade chip and you simply give up basically nothing, you take that all day every day. Hoping the Alberta teams can be at the top of the west again one day.
