If anyone actually cares about the bigger picture and not just a snapshot of “game score value” from Twitter, I can offer something I heard that makes sense to me. Clifton played a very structured game in Boston. He always knew where his partner was and where the forwards were going to be and played for years within the constructs of that system. The Sabres on the other hand are far more free wheeling and prone to improv, and the adjustment to that will likely take time. I’m not saying that all off a sudden he’ll be amazing or that everyone is wrong for posting these advanced stats. But as is almost always the case, there’s more to the story and I’m certainly not turning on the guy after 25 games when we have him signed for 3 seasons.

He was a huge reason they lost to the Panthers.
Never understood why people were happy when we got him.

You don’t need any advanced stats. Seems like every time he’s on the ice something bad is happening. The Sabres needed to add a Dman to bump Joker out of the top 4 and a Dman to bump Bryson out of the top 6. Adams failed at both. Clifton has been terrible. Bryson is better than him.
