It’s possible but shouldn’t be. His trade value is greater than his use value. You can love Willie or hate him, but that’s the truth.

Brad Treliving here, general manager of the ottawa senators.
My dad says if you go to boston pizza and get a specialty pizza pie and send proof of purchase that he’ll PERSONALLY sign william nylander to a 2 year contract.
So there you have it, A Restaurant and Sports Bar, Boston Pizza is two great concepts under one roof!
Mattewsmustache34
No he’s walking. The leafs do not want to pay what he thinks hes worth. Instead of letting him walk for nothing, they should be trying to trade him for a tip pairing d man
50TurdFerguson
We can and we Willy
Nameless908
It might be possible that this is the entire reason he is *not signed yet*
buddachickentml
Yes. Keep the exact same team. Sign the Domi’s and Bertuzzi ‘s to the same deal, give Nylander 3 more than this year. Chuck Klingberg and get a D. Stanley Cup winners
Szwedo
100% for sure maybe
Bobbyoot47
Well you have Domi, Klingberg and Bertuzzi all on expiring contracts. First question has to be answered is how much appetite will the leafs have to re-sign anyone or all of those players. Klingberg is probably a no. Domi and Bertuzzi can’t be assessed right now until we see how things work out with their game, especially in the playoffs. Samsonov as well. We also have to consider that the leafs may add contracts before the trade deadline. Trying to guess what would happen with anybody’s contract right now is just pissing in the wind.

It was really always just going to be 1 year of cap crunch, even if the cap didn’t go up we could sign him. Just a question of how much is he going to get paid and what we do from there. Like the rest of them, he won’t do us any favours.
carlv13
Leafs aren’t in a cap crunch next season even with Willy at 12m
Traditional_Bee_6637
I mean. Willy is easy enough to sign. We have like 25 or 30M in cap next year don’t we?
l_reganzi
Right after Marner is traded
Wings-N-Beer
This is the same as last time. He’s playing well this year so he can load up his salary, hope people forget past lesser performance, and then once the ink is dry he will go to the local sandbag store. He’s talented but he’s playing the system not the game.
shanster925
Yep. I think Jesse Blake’s « Swappy-Doodle-Doo » idea may work… Give Nylander a 1 year contract at $7 million, then in 24-25, gives Tavares $7 million, and Nylander $11 million.
aNINETIEZkid
I’d be willy disappointed if we don’t
CartelClarke
They could and should sign him.
However, he is not there biggest concern right now. The D needs a *major* revamp, which will be expensive and the bottom 6 could use some work.
Also have to consider goaltending. Yes, Woll has looked good but it’s still unknown if he’s a bonafide 1A goalie. That’s all up in the air as of now.
If Nylander was smart he won’t sign this year, play it out and sniff around in free agency. Always lean towards signing back with the Leafs and see if a team can give him an offer he can’t refuse. Either way the dude is getting paid 10M+ next year. Just depends where.
DrSeuss19
He better be signed
Big_Albatross_3050
Yes I expect a very long Willy extension in Toronto
kingex11
No. Half of that money covers Matthews’ extension. The other half will probably be for Liljegren if they decide to keep him.
aidan_C33
They can do it very easily. Even without the cap going up. They’ll have more than enough for him just based off of Klingberg’s contract expiring. Not to mention others also expiring.
jimmymeeko
What kind of question is this ? Lol
Iliketothrowaway2456
I mean, they’ll drop all these guys to sign Nylander with how he’s playing, then maybe make rounds again on a couple of them (Klingberg, Bertuzzi, Domi) if they have money left over. Like unless he wants huge term (if he just wants to go to 10-11ish there won’t be an issue).
We might take a step back next year just to make sure we get Matthews Nylander and Marner (who’s UFA next year) resigned. Then go for it again the year after. Tavares contract comes off the books next year, and if they do happen to resign him, it definitely be smaller than what it is now.

Absolutely, unequivocally not

Willy be signed? Probably.

4M? Like they projected last year but only added 1M. Settle down, it hasn’t even been confirmed.
