Sucks to end the road trip on a loss but I thought the boys showed up tonight, including Schmid. Can’t win them all.

Meanwhile, this is the second year in a row that we *lead the league* in back-to-backs but there will be no coverage on it or ramifications for it. Clown show fucking league.

  2. gothenburgpig

I can’t believe it but I think I’m concerned about our offense.

  3. Oilers didn’t give us much this game and our PP was abysmal. 3 out of 4 is great, but that was a bit of a stinker. Move on to Boston and make a serious push in the standings before the holiday break.

  4. Well, felt like this was a bit due. Schmid… lol, he’s good, he’ll be fine, but this was not his best puck handling game let’s say. Luke, tbh, looks a little tired. Edmonton just looked like… us, but bigger. I don’t see how we deal with that, in the short term.

  5. Dincht04

Looked a bit tired after the back to back, against a hot Oilers team. 3/4 on a West Coast trip is more than good enough, especially considering where we were.

  6. eburton555

Akira had some mental gaffes that can’t happen but then we lose by one goal instead of two.

  7. Chico-_-

I am unbothered, this was a schedule loss. They’re the tired team going up vs the hottest team in the NHL right now, it happens. Now get back home, rest up and be ready for what on paper looks like a very winnable December. This road trip gives me season-turning-point vibes. 3 out of 4, we definitely take those.

  8. SergeantTushFinger

Only 3 points out of second place (as it stands). Good road trip overall and the defense has looked a lot better in the past few games.

If they can beat Boston that would be great, the schedule gets better after that, and a lot of points this team can pick up.

It really looks like Meier needs more rest though, he looks just…slow

  9. mikefred2014

I thought we would lose this game, but damn we got shut down. Coming out of this, I’d want to see…

    1. Jack simplify his game. Dude is trying to do too much himself and it shows.

    2. Schmid make better decisions behind his net. He made some poor decisions laying to a goal and another one that was overturned.

    3. Don’t play Tierney. Dude is invisible out there. I’d rather have Smith play on the 4th line.

  10. Tough ask on a back to back, going into Edmonton that’s 9-3 with a new coach. Schmid was good but those gaffes cancel out what good he did. Either way, you’re not beating the Oilers with 1 goal so we can’t harp on the goaltending too much – he can clean up the puck handling mistakes and otherwise looks good.

  11. HopelessEsq

Frustrating that this team claws their way back into the mix in the playoff race and then drop the ball in games that could cement a playoff spot. This game and the Sharks game really could have gone a long way, feels like we’re always going to be chasing. Also frustrating that we finally start to get some competent goaltending and D, and our offense goes ice cold. What’s up with Timo?

  12. quantum_monster

6 out of 8 pts grabbed this trip and the sky is falling…

Yeah, offense was absent and Schmid made two mistakes, but I’m overall happy with this trip and feeling a lot better than the Nico-less games

  13. Saw_Doctor

Two weak goals, pulled the goalie too early, and couldn’t score on the power play

I feel like if it were a back to back one day away from another hard fought game we probably would have won this one.

  14. FARTING_1N_REVERSE

Oilers played an extremely solid game, didn’t know they had D like that.

With that said, all the forwards on the ice were making boneheaded decisions in the offensive zone, it was actually concerning. We barely tested Pickard.

Schmid had a pretty solid game against one of the most dangerous offensive teams in the league, just wish he wasn’t so dumb tonight.

  15. TurtleWater44

Can’t sweep the western canada trip every season

  16. Thehawkman2

    You can’t win them all!

It honestly it what it is, 6 out of 8 points ain’t bad on the road.

  17. FreeOJ32

Good road trip going 3-1. Actually a pretty decent game on a back to back on the road. They played well defensively, but Akira gifts the other team 2 free goals and the other teams goalie didn’t, and that’s the difference.

  18. NJDevils1

Jack hasn’t made great decisions last 3 games. Apart from the rush against the Flames where he got in alone, he has looked invisible (by his standards).

Timo has got to be injured. He has not won a single board battle since he’s returned.

Either way, can’t complain too much about this road trip. We’ve still won 6 of 8, and have looked better overall.

  19. AISwearengen

Timo Meier should not be in the lineup. Clearly injured and moving like a 40 year old. No reason for him to be in playing like this.

  20. IncreaseInVerbosity

Schmid is normally strong handling the puck, makes sense that an error would come sooner or later. Young goalie and a learning experience, he made some pretty big saves. 3rd game in 4 days, it’s whatever, 6/8 points from the road trip is something I’ll happily take.

  21. nostradamefrus

Losing 0-2 as things stood would’ve been acceptable. But the Devils aren’t allowed to have respectable losses, no. We get cosmic forces that make Schmid, who had been playing excellently, decide to leave the net open and get into a board battle. A position goalies are not supposed to be in. A decision I wouldn’t expect to see an AHL rookie make. Then, by the same cosmic fuckery, Lindy decides to pull Schmid, the player somehow responsible for keeping the game as close at it was despite the most boneheaded decision I’ve ever seen, with 4 minutes left against an aggressive team we had no chance of defending against without someone in net

Good job, Devils. You flashed your ass and turned what would’ve been an understandable and respectable loss into an embarrassment

  22. onederbred

I know there are still some issues, but it’s crazy how much better we look defensively with Dougie out of the lineup

  23. TheNightRain68

Not too bummed about this loss. It was a back to back against a hot Oilers team on a road trip. Boys were gassed and felt like a scheduled loss. That said, feel like our offense has been regressing a bit these past few games. Was a bit quiet in the Seattle game, got some lucky bounces in the Flames game, didn’t really take advantage of anything today. PP def needs to be looked at though. Its been very cold lately.

Other than that, won 3/4 games on the road trip so overall it was a pretty good trip for us. Looking at the Canes, they’re 0/4 on their road trip and still got 2 more, so anyone complaining needs some perspective if they’re mad we didn’t sweep. Defense and goaltending have done better which is also very good. Gotta rest up for Boston on Wednesday. Boys need it and hopefully Haula is back.

Also, please fix the third line.

  24. MountainBaker8217

    Unfortunately, Edmonton Had Our Number:

    * First goal against and third goal against, shouldn’t have happened. Those were frustrating to see.
    * And the fact that we had like what one or two shots in the second period when we should’ve been trying to tie it up? Also frustrating to see.
    * But you have to give Edmonton credit where its due. I thought in the first we looked evenly matched, but after they went up a goal, they really tightened up defensively and we couldn’t string much of anything together.
    * Pair that up with some fairly brutal games by our stars offensively, and thats the result.
    * But lets look at some of the other facts here. Edmonton had a day to rest and we were on the second half of a back to back. Also this is our third game in four days. This was almost a scheduled loss for us. Yeah, I would have loved a win, but I’m not like insanely upset about the loss.
    * We yet to get a win streak up to four games in a row, maybe one day it’ll happen.
    * I think this last run of games though is making me feel better about our defense and a bit better about our goaltending. I am not *yet* concerned about our offense, we don’t need crazy scoring games to win, but I feel like Jack’s strung together a few not so great games and we’re getting silence from some of our other powerhouses, Toff, Timo.
    * But then you can say that guys like Bratters and Nico are stepping up, so thats why I’m not concerned about offense just yet, but I’m keeping an eye on it!
    * We’ve won six of our last eight games. I don’t think thats anything to ignore. We are cleaning up some of the things that have plagued us since the beginning of the season. I still think we need to see a full sixty minute effort. Thats a key missing piece.
    * Edmonton just played a better game + some goofs by Akira + flaccid offense from us for a lot of the game.
    * Upcoming week of games is Boston, Columbus, and the Ducks. We need a revenge win against Columbus and we need to win against the Ducks. The Boston game is going to be a very very big test. Hoping we’re able to give a better performance on Wednesday at home, with rest and actual practice in between, than we did today.

Hope Erik Haula is good to go against Boston! And I think it may be time for some patented Lindy line blending, except don’t touch that first line.

  25. SaintPat

Granted Edmonton was in turtle mode by that point but give me more of that Nemec-Hughes pairing that was great to see

  26. TheDopestTrip

I’d be happy if Fitz/Ruff start making some big changes this month. I’d hate to go into the New Year with the team still playing this kind of hockey. It’s not terrible, but it ain’t a winning formula. Definitely some obvious issues outside the injuries.

    That is all.

  27. ricardofitzpatrick

So was that the end of a four-game road trip ending on a back-to-back or what?

  28. LaHondaSkyline

Many saying that Meier looks like he is not healthy and playing hurt. Was his injury ever revealed (beyond the typical upper body/lower body nonsense)?

  29. Team looked tired and wasted a great early performance by Schmid. This team needs to grow the fuck up

  30. gleeson630

I dont believe 23 years old need to punt a game just bc they were too tired, we didn’t have to lose this game. I think it’s really dumb to rationalize this loss. It’s a nice thing to do emotionally but it’s dumb. Like oh we can only bargain for so much. It’s not really only about wins or loses. Our wins are overrated. It’s not like we fixed anything, we just got better results. The goalies have been less unlucky, So not necessarily a ton of improvement, as stupid stuff is constantly happening like akira’s giveaway goal. Just a luckier outcomes lately and more posts hit. I don’t even really love our game in our wins…there’s just not a lot of grit to our team right now.

I just don’t really believe in this team. I don’t think we’re built to win anything in the playoffs. It’s the total picture. We can’t manage a game. Timo not improving at all. Holtz fading a bit even with the awarded goal last game. Goalies not a disaster but still not very good. Just not highly encouraged.

When Jack dominates a game he cannot stink. Jacks bad games are not like timos bad games where he’s invisible. It’s a little worse.

  31. Old_Artist3624

We should be happy with the positive takeaways from this road trip. 3-1. Best a solid team in Vancouver. Got a good game from v v in Calgary. Akira stood on his head in Seattle and held on to a 1 goal lead. Nemec first goal and a game winner for Luke.
Still room for improvement but losing to a team like Edmonton who’s on a heater on a back to back isn’t horrible. Disappointing to lose with mistakes we had but respectable.
Nate timo and Dawson need to score though.

Here’s a to coming out flying at home against Boston woot. LGD!!

  32. Hitman5286

Good road trip, but a few things will still be true. If we don’t acquire better goaltending, making the playoffs will be very difficult. Another stinker from Schmidt today. Goals 1 and 3 simply can’t happen on this level and in the same game. Our championship window expanded with our success last season and Fitz is throwing it away the longer we trot these back ups at best on a nightly basis. Dougie won’t be back for a very long time, let’s use that cap space to swing a trade or take flier on a free agent. We are 2nd to last in the league with this duo in net, may as well try something else.

  33. AfroDevil30

Wonder if we will see Nico Daws anytime soon between the pipes?

  34. – less than 24 hours ago, we were playing Calgary. From the end of that game, to traveling to Edmonton, while also recovering from a W, to play one of the fastest teams in the league that’s on a heater right now, is a tall order.

    – Timo playing like he’s injured, or 50, or both.

    – our defense actually looked more solid then normal tonight. Bahl played well, Marino played well, seigs was even good. The weakest of the dman core was Luke and even that wasn’t bad. If not for some really unfortunate bad positioning by our AHL goalie, it would have been a game

    – Bratt has always been streaky but it looks like he’s in a hot streak right now after a cold few weeks.

    – Jack will be fine.

    – the ending score was not representative of the actual game

    – Nico “Beaut” Hischer

    – Timo “Bust” Meier

  35. Kornja81

Goaltending and coaching are going to sink this vessel

  36. Cautious-Mammoth-657

I lost a lot of respect for Jack Hughes today. I get trying to get your team an advantage by getting power plays. But god, watching him fall over anytime someone got their stick near his feet was embarrassing

  37. -PoeticJustice-

If someone said « You’ll get 6 of 8 points » going into this road trip I’d take that every time. Bit of a sour end, but the team defense looked pretty solid.

Still a lot of wrinkles to iron out, but does feel like the team is coming together a bit. Really hoping goaltending regresses to the mean a bit.

Next up, a big bounce back game against Boston. Start another heater. Can stomach losses as long as they don’t become losing streaks
