Just like Halak, a PTO doesn’t mean much other than “we’re in the market for more goaltending”.

His 4 games were decent this year…and he had a good SV% since coming in as San Jose’s backup in 2017.

I know pickings are slim, but I hope GMDW has something else cooking.

In a weird position right now. Sounds like Andersen is still a little ways out. Gotta have someone backup kochetkov until freddie is back around early February. Unless Raanta goes to the AHL and posts back to back shutouts, I doubt we’ll see him for a little bit.

Even with Freddie and Kochetkov, you can’t count on either of them to stay healthy.

Still think we make a trade unless this look at Dell pans out.

Where are all the « Don is cooking » folks now? Don’s got nothing cooking. Hasn’t for a while. I thought he might have been cooking on Boeser last season, but he wasn’t. Good thing that guy didn’t amount to anything.

    So no Gibson, eh?

Can’t say I’m surprised at this point. Management has shown they are unwilling to move big pieces. No Tkachuk, Eichel, go down the list. I’m starting to lose faith here

Welp we’re not making a move now… definitely a stop gap unfortunately

This tells me Raanta is on a “get your groove back” stint with Chicago and will get recalled after this week’s games. Looks like we are still focused on 52/32 until Freddie returns, but eyes are on Freddie actually returning, which is good news. I don’t think a big splash in a goalie trade makes much sense if Freddie is coming back by February.

  8. We are bailing water till Freddie gets back, might be the best option

This guy always brick walled the shit out of us every time we played the Sharks

    Gonna provide some context here.

If you read Don’s comments last night he still has belief in Anderson being the #1 and Kochetkov the 2. He is in the market for an upgrade at #1 but, that means no Allen or other mid tier veteran.

Making a deal for a #1 is difficult and takes quite a bit of time so we will have to wait and see if anything pans out. The teams who may have #1’s available are still seeing where this season is going before committing to a trade and so unless Don is willing to overpay I don’t think it happens immediately.

Picking up a vet on a PTO costs us nothing and if Raanta finds his game in the AHL we can always have him as a backup if the signing does not work out.

It makes sense because Kochetkov has been solid so there’s no 100% panic mode. It’s tough because for fans we want change but, it’s a balancing act. We can’t just hit the big red button because that’s how teams ruin their future.

To me this is a move that’s more about the pending roster freeze than anything else. Like I know we want to make a move, which starts tonight. If (hopefully when), we make a move, my hope is it’s a long term solution and to be fair I’m sure in some of those instances you want to wait until after Christmas to see what Pyotr gives in the short term to see his workload. The one thing we screwed up with Cam Ward is he went from 20 games to number 1 the year after he won the Cup. He wasn’t ready and that was apparent.

So I’m just going to hold out hope that it’s a goalie with a NTC that said after Christmas we can do it and I’ll be ignorant until then.

That said, Don’s cooking is to make the most hated team in the NHL between TDA, Lemieux, Bunting and now Aaron Dell, so this just screams we’re getting Binnington (please no).

Name a better duo: the Carolina Hurricanes and complete pieces of shit.

  13. Throwback to when he clotheslined Drake Batherson and got suspended lmao

Don’t Iove just treading water hoping Raanta can return to form and keeping things going until Freddie can come back and banking in that. But it also might be that given the need to improve goaltending as well as get some offensive help, they’re being realistic about this team being a real contender and not pushing the chips all in.

Lots of time left in the season for sure, but man I just remember last year all the talking about how there’s still next year, and next year is here and it stinks.

Hell yeah! An aging goalie to help with our aging goalie problem!
