  1. Frustrate Jack and make him emotional, he makes stupid plays. Kids gotta figure it out

  2. game_escape

One positive and one negative thought:

-Jack needs to stop the flashy but irresponsible play in big spots. Teams with size, speed, and discipline make him invisible and the theatrics only hurt the team. He’s too talented to play this sloppily.

-Bahl had a terrific game tonight. That is the type of defensive play we need.

  3. LilNTheBasedGod

We need to make some trades or have a coaching change. Anything to light a fire under this teams ass. Back to back games where they looked totally inept.

  4. DevilJacket2000

If this is a game closer to Ruff being fired than fine. All of these giveaways, turnovers, mistakes, boneheaded nonsense.

    This. Is. All. Ruff.

  5. themakiexperiment

Some brother friction I have been noticing recently. Cant be easy to figure out a team with so much talent but I have no doubt once they do, it’ll be good

  6. MountainBaker8217

    Devastating:

    * Pretty bad Jack game. Two turnovers by Jack that led directly to goals.
    * Really didn’t want this one to go to OT in the first place, and then you really didn’t wanna lose the game like that.
    * Good first period, mid second period, good third period…and then womp womp.
    * Not much to say tonight, ’cause that OTL was a heartbreaker.
    * Really wanted a win for Nico’s 400th game…
    * 3/3 on the PK which is very nice, very good.
    * I guess I’ll say that I don’t think Lindy’s line blending is helping any right now. None of the lines looked good except for the fourth line which remained unchanged and Nico’s line from time to time. Thought Timo’s line and Jack’s line were real quiet or invisible for most of the game.
    * Fourth line was above and beyond our best line and that is not a good thing to say when you have three other lines filled with some legit stars.
    * Also, Brendan Smith had *some* good plays, but I think what Colin Miller does for Luke Hughes is heaps and bounds more advantageous than whatever Brendan Smith brings to a line up. So just put him back. The stats speak for themselves.
    * Bahl-Marino is really showing signs of being elite. Nemo is so fucking good, so fucking good really.
    * I know we got a point, but honestly we had the better of the play for most of the game, and we lost the game for ourselves here. We didn’t lose because the Flyers were a better team, we lost because we made mistakes. First goal was against was a turnover in our zone, second goal against was bad defensive playing from like four out of five players on the ice, and the OT goal against was another turnover.

Thursday night against the Oilers is Pride Night, and I will be there. One revenge game for gay rights please!

  7. nostradamefrus

Fire Lindy. Bench Jack a game for his outbursts on Sunday and attempts at hero ball tonight. Bench Timo until he’s healthy, don’t care how long. Trade Smith

  8. lucwille

GMTF- you can make the trades but a good gm knows when its time to fire the coach and make a change. This team needs a new voice

  9. spicyyarn

Probably Jack’s worst performance to date. Didn’t get a single shot off in regulation, and clearly no help in OT.

  10. Johnborkowski

3/0 on the PK and a PP goal is good, yes?

  11. njkid30

Nemec has been great. However Lindy needs to seriously shake shit up or GTFO. Really do not see the benefit of icing Timo at this point.

Also happy to see VV playing a bit better.

  12. LaHondaSkyline

Ruff can’t get them to play smart. That, not his system, is the real reason to consider making a change.

All three goals against are boneheaded mistakes that gifted goals. They do this most games. They do it more at home than on the road.

Mental mistakes of the sort that really leave a fan scratching his head in amazement. When they are this common, for one-third of a season…you have to ask if new leadership might be able to change it.

  13. DevilJacket2000

I can’t take this team seriously with Ruff behind the bench anymore.

  14. gothenburgpig

Reminder that there is about to be a no-trade period because of the holidays, so calls of trading VV and Timo can be put on hold until after Christmas

  15. Dependent_Weight2274

I had a dream last season where we had successfully exited our rebuild, and then beat the Rangers in the first round. Even in my dream, we lost in the second round, but I woke up feelings happy and that the window was opening for the Devils to start contending again…

    Such a sweet dream….

  16. Down_Rodeo_

Jack sucked tonight. ruffs lines suck. This team isn’t making the playoffs.

  17. Crumbssss_

Remember last year when we thought the team had turned a corner? Man how fucking stupid were we?

  18. DevilJacket2000

We should fire the coach just to get that new-coach bump most teams get. Get a quick ten points in the standings.

  19. IncreaseInVerbosity

Certainly as a defensemen I don’t think Smith is an NHL caliber player anymore, think Miller is quite clearly better.

Meier shouldn’t be seeing ice whilst he’s got whatever’s going on, game on game he’s the worst player. Not a dig on Meier’s actual ability, we know what a healthy Meier brings, we’ve seen what he’s done for the Sharks, but playing through this injury just isn’t working.

Simon Nemec, I say it every game day thread, he can do everything. Genuinely believe he’s a special special player. There was an OT shot he had, which led to a 3v1 counter, and he defended it pretty much perfectly. He’s only 19, I am saying it now, he is going to go right to the very top of the game.

  20. theketchupthief

I’m gonna try my best to be rational right now bc lemme be clear, I’m fucking heated

But everything that is happening this season is going to serve as a very valuable lesson for the entire organization in the years to come. Everybody got cocky. Players, coaches, fans, front office. We might get our shit together. We might not. There’s a very real chance we’re this year’s “team that went into the season not even considering missing the playoffs that winds up missing.”

    TLDR: fire Lindy ASAP.

  21. Grimmer097

Timo has had the same offensive production 2 weeks after coming off the IR, as he did when he was on the IR.

If he’s still hurt, let him heal, his production level would be the same.

  22. JackfruitProper

Jack is getting very whiny lately. This is not a “I hate Jack” post, just an observation. When he got taken down in OT he got up and was bitching to the ref, meanwhile it was an odd man rush going the other way. There is definitely some more growing up to do.

  23. The good:

    – Bahl and Marino pairing is legit. Marino seems to have found his groove and Bahl’s play has improved significantly

    – 3 successful PK’s and a point in the power play.

    – I won money on DraftKings

    – it’s kinda weird how, at the beginning of the season, our defensemen were our weak point… but now they’re playing consistently solid. Nemec is VERY solid defensively.

    – JBITBPITNHL

    The bad:

    – we managed to take a very winnable game that we dominated 85% of and lost it due to bad plays. Just had to lock it down and not make mistakes and womp, can’t do that.

    – VV looked kinda stuck in mud after random saves. He’d make a save, and then freeze for two seconds before readjusting. Also lost the puck a bunch. I don’t think he looked particularly
    Sharp at all

    – Brandon Smith didn’t make horrible plays. This is in the bad se room because y’all are gunna find a reason to hate on him. Miller could have been a healthy scratch for a number of reasons.

    The ugly:

    – Jack had three assists tonight.

    – WHENEVER something bad happens on the ice, and they turn the camera to Lindy, he looks like this 👨🏻‍🦲

    – how the fuck do we lose this game, man.

    – I’m convinced Lindy is using the “Timo is still dealing with the injury” thing as an excuse. He wouldn’t be playing if he was hurt.

  24. LaHondaSkyline

Remember when Severson mostly played great but had a total boneheaded crazy D zone mistake every fourth game? Well Severson left and the guys he left behind now make five such mistakes 3 out of every 4 games.

  25. granweep

Refs decided this game, we won this game 9 times out of 10 especially if that penalty gets called on Jack. They have the flyers 3 power plays and is 1. Whenever the betting line favors the devils this much and they get almost penalties called I automatically think either the refs or someone in their family made out big.

  26. TronVin

Fitz, please just put Lindy out of his misery. He looks clueless and miserable on the bench. Just get it over with. We all know it’s coming.

  27. NJDevil802

I’ll still watch all 82 games but this team isn’t making the playoffs

  28. Toasttoasttoast1

At work we have a saying that 1 ‘oh shit’ negates 10 ‘atta boys’. Jack Hughes will now give us 20 atta boys.

This game should not have gone to OT, we were dominant for most of the game

  29. GMEN999

I think the young guys want to impress the home crowd with these no look passes and passes between the legs. Need to play smarter. High risk plays with no/low reward.

  30. mustachiolong

Islanders beat the Oilers and Carolina beat Vegas. This was a bad night to try and keep pace and not walk away with 2. A point is a point, but this was a bad night to not get a divisional win.

  31. I kinda love how unhinged this sub is right now. All you really need to know is that right now we are averaging 3.5+ goals allowed per game and that is abysmal. Goaltending has been lackluster, but so has our defense, PK, and the insane amount of turnovers by our forwards and inability to finish the numerous goal scoring chances we have almost every game.

Lots and lots of little things need to be better. Blaming one or two players or Ruff won’t change that. Team on the ice needs to be better, season isn’t over yet.

  32. PicNov91

    ,
    -Leave Jack and Bratt together.

-Never play Smith over Miller or over anyone in that matter ever again.

    -Stop benching Holtz.

  33. Eh. Just not a playoff team 🤷‍♂️

  34. corn_n_potatoes

The outcome sucks but the loser point is something. Honestly, this is a good wake up call for Jack. He is elite, but has had a problem somewhat recently with turnovers. I think this game will stick in his memory and help with the turnovers going forward.

  35. I didn’t see a replay of that brutal no-call on Jack’s mini breakaway in OT. Had to watch the trash Flyers broadcast and even they were shocked, but I’m assuming the replay would show Jack just fell or something, because the ref was staring right at it. The officiating can’t be that bad

  36. Brattshandles

Timo put up 40 last year. Might get 15 out of him this year. Oof

  37. DevilJacket2000

We are getting a new coach and a new goalie this summer. That’s something to look forward to.

  38. buddyguy618

I’ll say something positive: McLeod won 16/18 faceoffs tonight

  39. sanbaba

Brutal lol. Overall I was happy we survived this game by the end of it. Latter half of the third period was the sort of hockey I’d love to see us play whenever we need to. Good defensive engagement from forwards. But lots of sloppiness tonight. Could have been much worse.

  40. Old_Artist3624

Refs really have been making some questionable calls or missed calls. It’s really disappointing. While we can play better we can’t beat the other team, the stripes and ourselves.

  41. MackofallTrades

Is anyone else getting Sydney Crosby vibes lately (his early whiny years)?

  42. AISwearengen

Jack Hughes wins plenty of games on his own. That was a straight up Jack Hughes L. Philly shouldn’t have even gotten a point out of this one.

  43. dlstove

Bad loss no way around it. Offense was not crisp, this team needs a few days off. Too bad the greatest player in the world is coming here Thursday and this team needs to respond. Move past it, win some games, and most of yall need to chill the fuck out

  44. gleeson630

I took this game off while flipping around my sleep schedule. And I came in with the most negative expectations and it went exactly how you’d think. Threw away a game. We walk right these games constantly. Process over results…and the process is rotten it’s not ab reacting to the game or getting the point. I didn’t watch the game live to get angry. But the Facebook fans are right the team is soft.

Jack has been careless with the puck for a while even in the overtime’s he wins the game. Some sort of risk in a move may lead to goals, but this was plain stupid. You’re assuming the defender isn’t there for what reason?

This is the reality, you lose the game on certain plays. It’s way into his career we can criticize the way he plays sometimes, it’s not winning hockey sometimes and we need him to bear down. Even if he dominated last game or whatever the context is, you ask for more if you’re a superstar. Winning mentality. It wont take away from the good parts of Jack’s game if you don’t do a flyby every time or make a smart play and have some game sense.

Luke is absolutely putrid on that last play. Work on the pokecheck or quit the “Ole” defense. The game is ending in front of him a lot, and I’ve been gaslighted by ya’ll. I mean he’s still good enough to be a decent defender but he’s not far from Will butcher rn. He’s plays defense like he’s only doing it bc it’s mandatory. If we shouldn’t complain about his warts bc he’s a rookie then don’t have expectations for the team.

You want decent goalie stats or confident goalies? stop with the sudden fuck ups. This is the difference between getting a .920 save percentage and .885 this game. You don’t need the context of adv stats it’s right there. Thats the difference between the “goalies are coming around” and “we need a save every once in a while”. Sudden grade A opportunity with no warmup.

You can shut down a team like the flyers every once in a while. If you play a full 60 you should be able to win ONE low scoring game. It’s possible even if the goalies are not very good, that happens all the time in the nhl. This team for whatever reasons just leaks goals. Need to be comfortable defending. Play the game the right way with confidence. They are gonna counterattack and keep themselves in the game. We know that and we’re still on the wrong side of the puck constantly. You can say it’s the system but we straight look like we do not care if we let up an odd man to a team that likely won’t score otherwise. Someone in the locker room needs to step up, it’s been the same story all damn year.
