It's definitely more fun when they both make the playoffs. Still think you should do a video on the Boston goalie train since you became a fan..
Can you do Toronto VS senators
1:11 all i feel is pain
There’s nothing like opening night of the playoffs when the habs are at home.
I was present in the Forum in 1979 for the 'too many men on thie ice' event. What a time! I'm a big Habs fan and can't wait for another Habs vs Bruins playoff match.
The 1994 series was really frustating as a Montreal fan because Roy was really on top of his game and then he had an appendicitis the night before game 6, I believe. They put him on a bunch of meds in order to delay the operation so that he could finish out the series, but in the mean time, Tugnut had to play one game and everyone knew he was no match for Boston. He lost said game. Then Roy came back and they lost the series. According to the French media at the time, Patrick Roy looked completely exhausted. There was an huge feeling of "what could have been" in that lingered through the whole summer after that. Montreal coming off a Stanley cup win in 1993 and all.
As a Bruins fan let me let you in on something. Bruins never lose games or series. Bruins simply run out of time. Big difference.
Please more rivals discussions.
NHL lacks rivalries these days
Been a Bruins fan since 1990
Moog/Ranford Bourque Neely.
My best friend was a die hard Blues fan. So in 2019 i was torn. Im rooting for both. But to see St. Louis win was awesome. I saw Vancouver give Boston the cup in 2011.
Habs fans hate the Leafs the most..Boston is not a hate but rivalary as NEW ENGLAND was the first to help Halifax after the Halifax explosion
Couldn't not watch this one. Go Habs Go!
This was fantastic!
The 1970s were fun times to become a hockey fan…only three teams won the cup during an entire decade…so it was real easy to pick the winner before the start of the season. Boston( which wasn't likely after 74), Philly, or the Canadiens(which you could have picked for the entire decade and you had a 60% chance of being right).
Those old division rivalries in the 1980s were great. 8 games vs the other teams in your own division led to a real rivalry with most other teams in your division. Sure you only saw Gretzky 2-3 times per season if you were in the Norris or Adams Division, you got to play teams you really hated to lose to again & again. The Habs and Nordiques, the Habs and Boston, Detroit vs Chicago, Edmonton vs Calgary… Of course the whole 80 game season was to just eliminate 5 out of the 21 teams in the league, which was kind of dumb, but was still fun to watch.
Here's the best example of how historically important this particular match-up was/is: as part of my international affairs degree progam in college, I took a class on Canadian history and we spent a week or two on just hockey and specifically the Habs due to Rocket Richard. I went to college in the US in New England. No other NHL rivalry comes close imo and it ranks as one of the top 10 sports rivalries in US professional sports.
My first NHL game at the forum was vs. Boston. Midway in the first, Nilan and O’Reilly had a really nasty fight. Both were bleeding. I still remember that moment clearly decades later.
Moog and Fuhr were my favorite goaltending tandem, For Boston, Moog and Lemelin would be at the top for me, too.
The nhl is more fun when both teams are contenders
This spring marks 10 years since the last matchup. We NEED it. Too many new fans who have no idea how much fun it is in the PO. Stuff happens. Unsung players get sung. Goalies become known. Hatreds fester. Little tiny bumps become massive hits. No slight is forgotten or forgiven, until the series is over and everybody lines up and shakes hands, til the next one when it starts over again and no quarter is given or asked. NO PRISONERS! and no passengers. Fortunes are made and legends and myths are written. WE NEEED THIS!
Hearing don cherry’s name brings back memories. I miss that man on television
I would LOVE to see more rivalry rundowns. Great video Shannon!
I was a diehard Bruins fan in the 1980s when I was a teenager. I hated (past tense) the Montreal Canadiens. (After seeing so many sports championships in New England, I'm now a casual fan.) The Bruins lost to the Habs in the playoffs in 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987. They were the 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th consecutive playoff series defeats to Montreal. When the Bruins finally prevailed in 1988 for the first time since 1943, it was more satisfying to me than winning the Cup in 2011. In 1991 or 1992 I saw both teams play at the Forum. I wore a Bruins sweatshirt and not one person bothered me; I always remember that. Now I sincerely hope that Toronto or Montreal or any team in Canada wins the Cup soon.
Just wanted to pop in after watching the vid and say thanks for all the history vids on rivalries, players, teams, franchises, coaches and etc. Much appreciated 👍🏻 and always enjoyed these vids
Not a fan of either team, but very interesting content! Would love to see more like this 😊

So in conclusion, the first 100 years of NHL was the Montreal's century and the next 100 will be Boston's.
It's great that Boston hasn't wasted a great regular season by coming up short in the playoffs since 1930.
….
Anyway, fun video.
