Unlike that Athletic article, Vince’s summary makes a lot more sense.

I think he’s right about our deadline strategy kind of depending on Chytil. If it doesn’t look like he’ll return, I see Drury going all-in for Lindholm. Boston and Colorado are also expected to be buyers, but we have more assets available than both of them.

I also like the idea of Nashville’s Tommy Novak for the bottom 6. The Bonino and Goody lines have been effective as shutdown defenders, but they provide very little actual offense. Instead of Lindholm who will be expensive, I could see Drury targeting two of Duclair, Monahan, and Novak for more offense and flexibility in the middle/bottom 6.

*With the news that Chytil is going back to Czechia for a « reset, » which probably isn’t something you’d do unless you expect to be there for a while, I feel like that all but guarantees Drury will prioritize a center.

  2. NYR’s biggest need is 5v5 offense and somehow everyone recommended in this article is bad at this.

major pass on lindholm, really don’t understand the appeal. acquisition cost will be way too high and he’s basically zibanejad (a power play finisher who doesn’t produce at 5v5). right now he’s managing to create even less offense at 5v5 than Huberdeau is. [he’s been really bad this season](https://hockeyviz.com/fixedImg/teamWowy/2324/CGY/wrap). hell, Tyler Pitlick is creating more 5v5 offense on avg than Lindholm is. Extremely bizarre that Vince recommends him, not 2 sentences after saying that Henrique’s « underlying metrics leave a lot to be desired ». [Henrique’s underlyings are basically Lindholm’s despite Henrique’s defensive bias.](https://naturalstattrick.com/playercompare.php?fromseason=20232024&thruseason=20232024&stype=2&sit=5v5&score=all&stdoi=oi&rate=y&p1=8474641&p2=8477496&loc=B&gpfilt=none&fd=&td=&tgp=410&lines=single) if you’re going to pay the acquisition cost for Lindholm then you may as well just get Roslovic

fact of the matter is that the « well he’ll be playing with better players » argument doesn’t really work when the player search is for someone to play with Kreider and Zibanejad, and Kreider and Zibanejad are not playdrivers. *they* are the ones who need someone to help them out, not the other way around. NYR needs a playdriver (Kakko) to fill that spot, not someone who will be dependent on Kreider and Zibanejad to help them.

Henrique is good and a major upgrade from Bonino though, although there are plenty of options internally who would be major upgrades and wouldn’t cost as much.

also have no idea why you’d acquire Olofsson, another player who is only capable of scoring on the PP, instead of someone like Jordan Greenway who isn’t giving back all his offense with poor defensive play. wouldn’t go for either one though IMO, the point simply being that Olofsson isn’t any better offensively than Greenway at 5v5 but Greenway’s D metrics are way better

but if you wanna target someone, Morgan Frost is a pretty logical choice. Young C who’s played really well and Tortorella’s obvious disliking of him should drive the price down.

pick between these 2 players and then see who each one actually is (5v5 rate stats):

    >!Jimmy Vesey!<: 6-4-10 points, 1.93 points/60, 13.29 shot attempts/60, 7.51 scoring chances/60, 4.82 high-dangers/60, 0.93 xG/60
    >!Elias Lindholm!<: 4-8-12 points, 1.52 points/60, 12.56 shot attempts/60, 5.46 scoring chances/60, 2.41 high dangers/60, 0.56 xG/60

I wouldn’t mind Duclair if the goal was to put him on a 3rd line with Cuylle & Chytil/Trocheck but not with Kreider and Zibanejad.

Given Kakko should be back in the coming weeks I don’t think RW is that big of a need. I understand I’m a bigger KK supporter than a lot of fans are given how he started the season but I have faith in our Finnish boi. Put him back with Mika and Kreider and he’ll be fine Unless they wanted to upgrade from Wheeler, which I’d be okay with.

My heart still beats for Frank Vatrano. Can someone put me out of my misery and explain why it’s not going to happen?

  5. beerleaguer2

They need a 3c. Chytil isn’t coming back anytime soon. And if he does, he’s one hit away from retirement.

  6. Famous-Implement-492

    Tarasenko, Duclair, Guentzel, or nothing

Do we really need to make a trade though? Why mess with the chemistry we have at the moment. We are doing just fine.

People who are stuck on the old rangers/previous trade deadline acquisitions are like stuck in a time loop. Been there …done that. It didn’t work the first time why keep rehashing old wounds?

I like Senko, but it would be absolutely insane to trade for him again when he honestly seemed to want to come back and we just didn’t make the effort/or whatever the final story was.

I like the idea of Lindholm but most likely we are going to need Calgary to eat some salary, and a guy 2 yrs removed from scoring 42 goals isn’t going to come cheap. Especially when most of the available trade talent pool is nowhere near his talent level.

I hope Drury adds 2 to 3 pieces that are just depth players. I don’t want another big name player like Guentzal. Those trades never work and it has been proven time and again.

I don’t think Nashville is going to move anyone we would want, maybe Sherwood is available at reasonable price. I think the best options are Chicago, Anaheim, and Columbus. Sharks have no one we need or want. Rosolvic could be a great addition. Henrique is probably the best option on the Ducks. Like I have kept repeating I have a stiffy for Jason Dickinson on the Blackhawks.

If we could add 1 or 2 of these players and not have to give up a ton to get them….that would be the ideal situation. Thinking low risk …low reward. Just guys who are not high end talent but just grind out the wins.
