Its not on Samsonov when the D is leaving an opposing player wide open in front of the net. They did it twice against CBJ last night and even the first goal Carolina got against the Leafs today (Dec.30) was the exact same thing.
Let’s be clear the Leafs are not going to contend for the cup, unless they address their defence, goaltending, secondary scoring and structure. Perhaps it might be best to start at the top and scrap the Brendan Shanahan plan, cause it ain’t working! Ineptitude at the management level has been their curse and will continue to be until they hire someone that knows what they’re doing.
Some players aren’t built to play with the spotlight you get on some NHL teams. We need Fleury, Quick, or even a goalie like Allen would completely change the look of the Leafs. Goaltending is the biggest thing we’ve been missing in the Matthews/Marner/Nylander era. Andersen was great but always getting injured and trying to play injured.
Leafs defensive game is riddled with problems. Samsonov is being scapegoated, as his confidence is shot.
Management is to blame. Year after year the leafs forgo elite goaltending and then are surprised in the playoffs when they're destroyed by teams with goalies like Bobrovsky, Vasilevskiy, Price etc.

Good luck getting a goalie, pittsburgh locked up Jarry for good reasons and grabbed two more for good measure. Getting a goalie at this point is going to cost a fortune

He doesn’t even sound like he wants to be a Toronto Maple Leafs. He doesn’t sound like he wants to. He sounds like he needs to leave. Pronto stat fast as possible. Get rid of them quick because he doesn’t wanna be there. He sounds unmotivated and a downer.
I'd say yes especially the way their defense play in front of him. They are terrible. Just look at the last game. But it's been like that for years. I feel sorry for the guy. Goalies are a fragile bunch. He's left all alone most times and has to take the brunt for the lack of help he gets clearing the front of the net.
