  1. If only, if only…I wish this had happened game 7 cup finals.

  2. Macho_Pichou

The legend said people still booing at Tampa.

  3. marsking4

I don’t know who to be mad at for this. The refs, the players, the person who played the music? Both teams thought the play had ended.

  4. RDS highlights? That’s a change of pace.

I have words about the goal but y’all don’t want to hear them

  5. togocann49

Gotta make sure play is actually dead before turning your backs. Even the goalie is guilty. I don’t think this is so much Habs being heads up, as TB players collectively being oblivious

  6. mathycuber

The stadium has been booing the refs for an hour now

  7. KillgoreTheBeast

Are the NFL refs taking part time work in the NHL??

  8. zivlynsbane

Did you guys hear a whistle? No? Play still goes on.

  9. KillgoreTheBeast

    More context.

The red light at the penalty box was turned on, which is an indicator for a commercial break, hence the lack of goalie.
That light is controlled by an official in the box. Since it was his error (that at least partially) caused this, I believe the goal should not been allowed to count

I don’t know the NHL rules on this, but have officiated Jr B. If an acknowledged official error caused a goal, it’s typically not allowed to count. Tampa would have a pretty clear argument that the red light coming on caused their goalie to leave the net

  10. Dependent_Ad4898

No Tampa players near the net or pressuring, refs didn’t need to blow the whistle. If anything it’d be a delay of game penalty on the habs goalie for not playing the puck if he held on longer.

  11. Rare_Cartographer579

sis tampa rhibo the period was over or just blown dead?

  12. turbopro25

That’s pretty rough. Ref held the whistle to his mouth for way too long. Having that said. The whistle never blew. Players need to be aware of that.

  13. dragons_fire77

If this happened to my team, I’d definitely be furious because the ref looked like he was blowing the whistle and that was a looong wait with the goalie holding the puck.

But since there technically was no whistle, can’t fault Montreal for just going for it.

Think refs are mainly to blame because two of them even acted like the puck was frozen and were wandering around.

    Definitely bizarre

  14. You’ve gotta watch the ref at 0:32-0:34. In the far corner you can see him give a waist high hand motion to the Montreal players to keep playing. All of the bolts have stopped and are leaving the ice. That ref **knew** he was signaling to just *some* of the players on the ice.

ETA: did you actually watch or just downvote?

  15. Canadian__Ninja

I know the music is playing and nine times out of ten the ref will blow that play dead, but if you didn’t hear a whistle you ain’t done yet.

  16. commodore_stab1789

Was the ref waiting for the new year before blowing the whistle? Goal is good, no doubt but damn.

  17. PallyNova

There’s plenty of times the ref will tell the goalie to move the puck if there is no reason for them to cover it. There was nobody pressuring the goalie whatsoever, so no reason at all to blow the play dead

  18. McMetal770

If there is no pressure on the goalie, the refs are NOT supposed to let them freeze it. Tampa made a lazy assumption and they paid for it. As much well-deserved shit as the refs in the NHL receive, this time they got the play right.

  19. NuffinSaid

Tricky one, because no one was pressuring the goalie so the ref was right in not blowing the play dead. It should not have been blown dead there. However, once the red light went on at the penalty box indicating a commercial break and the DJ plays the music, the refs on the ice should have recognized the error by the time keeping official and blown the play dead there. So refs on the ice were right letting play continue, but wrong for not blowing whistle after light goes up

  20. rootless_shadow

Is this Remy and Benny on the call? (Shoresy reference, sorry)

Fucking refs, cmon (DJ, too). But, while they were the cause it’s on the players for allowing it – play to the whistle.

  21. FloridaMan_407

Thank the lord we still got away with a win… good lesson to learn however! Have to make sure play is dead.

  22. The-Reverend-of-Evil

Lightning still beat them. Nice try refs

  23. illkeepmakingnew

Hahahahahah watching this made me happy, mostly because it was against tampa. That’s why you play till the whistle, minor league players would’ve know better

  24. buddachickentml

Would’ve been funny if he missed and iced it
