A look at some numbers, comparing the Oilers to most current playoff teams from Friday November 24th through to Friday January 5th. I took a bit of a deeper dive into the Western conference and worked out goal diff, shot diff and SV%. SV% is both Calvin and Stu combined.

Good. Really good.

So good that most people who don’t follow the team are still talking about if they have a chance to climb back into the wildcard chase… at the rate they’re going, Vegas, LA and Vancouver have got to be wondering which one of them isn’t going to stick in the top 3 of the Pacific.

Next 10 games are all very winnable to js

Been a wild run and we are still not in a WC slot lol.
Might be more for whatever reason we seem to not be playing many games.
But even with a slight slow down seems inevitable we’ll overcome at this pace.

I knew the Oilers numbers were looking great over this stretch.
But holy hell, Winnipeg with a .940 SV% over 19 games is insane
swissdonair_enjoyer
absurd that winnipeg has done worse (still very well but not as good) with a fucking .940 sv%. helle relax

Vancouver is such a paper tiger

“In order to hit just 96 points they’ll need to play at a 120 point pace…”
Oilers: “bet.”

I’ve been saying it for awhile now. Edmonton will finish top team in the Pacific.

What would it take to get Hellebuck to Edm? Is a stanley cup enough? Lol

There will be adversity ahead, but the last 20 or so games have been the best I’ve seen this team play in decades. They’re calm and poised in the defensive zone, they’re relentless on the forecheck, and their penalty kill wins battled and clears pucks.
I wasn’t a fan of the coaching change, but damned if Knoblauch hasn’t eliminated the chaos from this team’s game. The next 20 games will tell us whether this is permanent, but what an unbelievable turn around to the season.
The best part is this team will get better at the deadline with a couple small trades.

Man Demko is absolutely carrying the Canucks defense on his back.

Vancouver with the -71 shot difference. What’s going on with that team? Hot goalie? Unsustainably goals per shot percentage? That seems like the kind of stat that would cause them to crash down to earth at some point, although they’ve been saying that all year and it hasn’t happened yet.

Streaky team. We either win or lose consecutively.

I feel like we’ve been playing the same 😂 just have been getting saves from our tendies
SocDem_is_OP
Hellybuck .9401 and they *only* won 73% is actually impressive.
