I’d love it, but the real problem is Shanahan isn’t going to allow treliving to fire Keefe. Mlse only cares about reg season success. I kind of hope we miss playoffs this year to get some sort of a wake up call.

I don’t know about you guys but I’m straight up not having a good time

This was said weeks ago on nick alberga and jay rosehill daily show on YouTube leafs morning take. Had him on for an interview and just now SN is grabbing this story.

Would be a perfect fit. He’d reset the culture and brings instant credibility.

It doesn’t matter who is coaching because our salary cap structure is a mess.

We have one top four quality defenseman, it is simply not enough. Has Liljegren shown glimpses? Yeah, and I hope it works out but tonight he showed you why he isn’t there yet.

I’m sorry but it’s just not possible to win giving 4 forwards half of the salary cap, it sucks and I hope I’m wrong because the only way out of this mess is to wait until Tavares is off the books.

No, we don’t trade a 26 year old superstar, the fastest leaf to 600 points and rely on a 35 year old. You do the opposite.

Once the salary cap increases and Tavares is off the books you can build around Matthews, Marner, and Nylander with the additional cap space, until then? I guess we just gotta wait and see if they can surpass our expectations.

The team is built for maximum profits $$$ for Bell/Rogers.

This is why the core 4 will not get traded, Bell/Rogers makes too much money on the 4 of them.

  7. NODES2K

Your best player gets cut down in cold blood….and the only thing that happens is Mitchy goes over for a hug on the culprit.

  8. NODES2K

Do you know the difference between 10 and 11 million? Greed!

  9. NODES2K

Remember the Might Ducks movie? They had the flying V instilled fear in the opposition….the Leafs have the flying fly-bys around the net.

Yeah Berube won the Cup which you can’t take away from him, but it seems a lot like the Capitals winning the Cup – a random successful run where everything goes right because his playoff results in every other year don’t really look any different than the Leafs’.  I’m not taking his Cup away from him, he earned it, but he’s likely not some magic playoff guru.

Team still can’t hold a 3 goal lead but hey at least we signed Willy for another 8 years and continue to handicap ourselves with almost 55% of our money tied up in 4 players. Maybe Willy can play goalie and Marner can take the blue line next year.

Blown lead to the islanders, blown lead to Detroit, blown lead to Colorado…..do you guys see the pattern here yet or still don’t get it? Cant build a complete team with half your money tied up in 4 people and the rest are just pick-ups from around the league.

7 years and some of the highest contracts in the league and the best you have to show for it is a round 2 exit….

Downvote me all you want, anyone who disagrees with this is either new to hockey and just played their first house-league game or doesn’t understand the concept of the sport.

    I’ll make the prediction.

Say they fire Keefe. Berube comes here. We get a short “new coach” bump and then we’re punted in the playoffs.

Next season we miss the playoffs.

    Not because of Berube.

It will be because we dump half our cap on four dudes who cannot have an “off” night because the team that’s surrounding the rich core are league min plumbers who just don’t have the ability to carry a team. As they shouldn’t because they’re league min guys.

  13. Hoardzunit

We need to be realistic. This team isn’t it. We should just write this season off and potentially next season and spend this time creating a better contending team. Once JT’s contract is off the books and potentially trading Marner we have a shit ton of cap space to work with to ice a better team.

  14. RTH1975

    What’s that old saying..

« Show me a great goalie, and I’ll show you a good coach » or something like that? If they had a decent (playoff) goalie anytime in the past decade, things would have been different. Andersen was notorious for how much he fell off in the playoffs. Campbell? Mrazek? Samsonov? All gambles.
Point is, that a hot goalie can win a series or two. Let’s try that instead of a 3rd string AHL goalie

  15. shanster925

Oh good, let’s just do a Boudreau/Tocchet situation again. That was perfectly fine and didn’t adversely affect as anybody.

  16. Aedan2016

We should have hired Lavi in the summer.

  17. braveheart2019

Berube hired. Tells the team that anyone not pulling their weight will be traded. Core 4 starts laughing.

  18. BuzzOff2011

As unlikely as it is I think Berube is the coach the leafs need. I know a simple coaching change won’t be the key to winning a cup let alone a couple rounds but something needs to change as management doubled down on the core so that’s not going anywhere

  19. dingleberry51

Is he a hard ass? Kind of seems like one, which is what this team needs IMO

  20. jackanonsmith37

It is very unlikely they fire Keefe before his extension even starts lol they just finished paying Babcock and I doubt MLSE is jumping to pay another coach to not coach

  21. TheWilrus

Why? They have Gruden in the system. Just promote the guy that helped coach the greatest team in regular season history. The leafs biggest issue is consistency and Gruden was on the staff that coached the ultimate consistency team.

  22. GLFR_59

If he get the job, how many games until Marner or Nylander get benched? Neither play defence
