I think that this is the time to address this rather than say during the playoffs. I’ve been sober for years and I can’t imagine beginning that process while under the pressure and scrutiny of being a professional athlete and new father.
I have nothing but respect and admiration for anyone who pursues sobriety, things like this are just more important than hockey – I guess I’m buying #13 and #49 jerseys soon.

Beyond gutted this has happened to Nichushkin, especially in the middle of a career year and so soon after the birth of his daughter.
But I will say.. thank freaking god that Girard took the steps he needed to get help. If this is what motivated Nichushkin to do the same thing and reach out for help, he’ll come back even stronger.
