Which duo has won a Stanley Cup recently and which duo has only made conference finals once? This is already an answered question.
DocPsycho1
I mean, as stated. Which one won a cup. That’s the duo I want.

I’m an Oiler fan and I’d rather start with a stud center and stud D than 2 stud centers.

All these guys are absolute studs, the guy who really tips the scale though is Makar. The value of a defensmen on his level is really difficult to quantify, but it’s safe to say it’s extremely high.
Dark_J_Shark
Definitely the combo that’s won a cup.
rscott222
I think that question has been answered with a Stanley Cup.

Makar with any of them would be the answer. Put McDavid with Makar and they’d be unstoppable.

All 4 are amazing players, but I’m taking the pair that solves 2 of the biggest issues for most teams. A true number 1C and a 1D.

Makar and Mackinnon easy without a doubt, I coached hockey for years and always said forwards win games defence wins championships (this is a prime example) out of these 2 teams who has the core 4 consistent of 3 forwards 1 defence
Look at any team in recent years that have won the cup or been serious contenders, you always have a lay out of 3-1 or 2-2
Mikko Mack Cale
Stamkos kuch and Hedman (pick any of the other cirelli killorn point)
Toews Kane Keith and again pick anyone there
To me the core 4 have to consist of atleast one shut down defenceman who can slow the game down in the defensive end and 1 core forwards who can slow the play down in the offensive end, if you can do that the goalies job is 100x easier yes having a world class goalie helps too but not necessarily what’s needed, players who can calm a team on the ice and slow the play down are more effective then some one who can put up 100 point
Another example look at these three Canadian teams this year
Winnipeg
Vancouver
Toronto
Their core this year
Scheifele Connor you could argue a few other forwards and morrisey
Peterson miller boeser and Hughes
Matthews Marner nylander and Tavares (you can say Reilly) as a leaf fan this one sucks because I want Morgan to be part of the core 4 but he can’t seem to slow the game down like the other defence can
However this isn’t based on the leafs the question was Cale Nate vs mcdavid dri
Like I said I’d rather build upon a core defenceman and a core forward then 2 core forwards

Honestly, the fact that damn near the entire thread is variations of « which pair has a Cup? » both hurts me as a fan, but pleases me because it’s the correct answer.

Hot take: MacKinnon and Makar, but not for reasons already stated.
It’s because I think Nathan’s style of play lends itself better to playoff hockey than Connor’s. He’s stronger, more physical, and better equipped to go deep into the postseason.

Makar and Mackinnon.
Like Drai and McD, but I’d rather have a great D and great O.

Quick question to the folks that keep saying Makar & Mackinnon (the cup winners). The question is, “who would you rather build a team around?” Most of the response are directed towards a specific team that someone else pieced together. So if you eliminate that fact that any of these guys have won a cup because no one here built those teams, would that change a response?
Honest question. Not trying to be a dick or start shit. Just noticing a pattern.
