Pittsburgh is a beautiful city. I never lived in it, but I'd been to it many times as I lived in the area for 27 years. Always loved it.
I moved away from Pittsburgh many years ago but I continue to tell everyone "Pittsburgh is a wonderful city to be from"
Trade Geno to a contending team. Get what you can for him.
I lived in Pittsburgh for 40+ yrs and I’m so glad I left. Crime, politics, weather, roads, traffic and many more reasons on why I’m glad I left. Very interesting city and a ton of history there but that’s not enough to overcome the bad.
Love Geno but he needs traded! He is literally losing any interest in skating hard and back checking. Try to stick handle through 3 guys at the blue line and turn it over and they go down and score.

The front office were okay with Geno walking last year until Crosby stepped in (reportedly). I think most fans were okay with it too given his penalties, turnovers, & lack of effort at times

Power play is not a player or skill issue. It’s is entirely the scheme and coaching. The entry is terrible, the setup is terrible. It was never just “go to the net” you can replace Malkin on the PP and replace him with….? No one. Dudes third in points on the team and more points than anyone in the last 10. What slump are you referring to?
Too many chefs in the kitchen on the PP. They definitely need to split them up. Sid, Jake, Rakell, Puustinen, Karlsson and then Geno, Rust, DOC, Smith, Letang or something like that. But then I think, taking Geno off PP1 might make him even less engaged then he already seems to be at times.
I've been saying this for a few years. Geno is and has been the issue. And Sullivan all but nothing to change it up. Reunite him with Letang on the 2nd unit.
One thing you didn’t mention is what the repercussions of removing Malkin from PP1 would look like and I think he would make a big stink. I think he’d be emotional and unhappy and it would affect his whole game. Geno, as you mentioned, is a player who needs to “feel” it and you said it usually comes with a goal, not assists. When he is feeling it, he still flashes dominance. But man does he check out a lot and when he’s not feeling it, his game is ugly. I think a removal from PP1 would impact his psyche and approach.

Why are we not talking about removing Karlsson? It seems like he has had more issues than anyone on PP1.

DK I think the people who rave most about theBurgh are those like me…People who lived there most of their lives and then moved away. In my case I;ve been living near to Jacksonville Flori-DUH for 20+ years for the great year round weather. It's a cultural void. . Also, people who rave about theBurgh are those from other cities who moved here. And as you say many visitors rave about it. Many/most people who have always lived in Pittsburgh just dont seem to understand/appreciate what they've got…you sure do. Pittsburgh is a very special place. I speak in generalities.
Bemoaning Malkin for this train wreck is a hot take. This is a coaching issue (or lack thereof) and will only be solved by bringing someone in with strong leadership skills at assistant coach.

Last year Edmonton lost in the playoffs to Vegas. They had one of the best power plays ever if I'm not mistaken. I see Vegas as a team that won at even strength. They had some star power but they had tremendous leadership in Mark Stone. He was somebody I didn't like or care about until I saw Vegas play against Edmonton and Dallas. The Penguins have perhaps one of the best leaders in the league in Crosby. The Penguins need the power play to work at key moments in the biggest games. They don't need to depend on the power play. That might actually hurt them come playoff time when teams suddenly play their best brand of disciplined hockey. They need some more points in the standings from some power play goals to get in and to continue to improve. That probably means risking injury and screening the goalie or taking a hit from a defensemen in front of the net. I'm thinking that is something that will happen more often as the situation calls for it. The Penguins do need points from their leadership when it matters the most. They don't need to be great on the power play. Greatness on the powerplay might get you into the playoffs or make you the best goal scorer of all time, but then a disciplined hockey team will just not allow a power play in the playoffs. We've seen that before. I'm just a fan I don't get to dictate what happens LOL. Just wanted to say what I think.

DK, born in Pittsburgh but have been in Ohio most of my life. Pittsburgh is a place to brag about (and not just on sports, although usually a lot of fun). From someone who has been away most of my life and outside looking in Pittsburgh is a very proud town with very proud people. Also, Ohioans like to compare Pittsburgh to Cincinnati, would love your take on that!
He has had his moments, but is a defensive liability and takes too many penalties. The consistency is gone.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, haven't lived there in over a decade. All my family is there, so i go back frequently. As someone who has lived in Columbus, DC, and Atlanta, Pittsburgh seems "old," which I think is what makes it great. The perks of a living in a bigger city are nice, but I hope Pittsburgh always maintains that small town charm. I'm always proud to let others know that I'm from the Burgh! Once a yinzer, always a yinzer, lol
I've been saying Geno is the problem for MONTHS. He can't gain the zone, consistently turns the puck over, doesn't get in position to take a one-timer, and every pass is predictable. Replace him with anyone and the PP will improve immediately. Put him on the 2nd unit. Or..plant him in front of the goalie on the first unit and only let him go for redirections and rebounds.
I’m from beautiful Vancouver and I don’t know if I’m bias because of the Penguins but I absolutely loved the city of Pittsburgh. From Mount Washington, to the SouthSide Flats, the streets downtown on Pens/Steelers game days, the bridges, just so many cool views and fun things to do. Last time I was there was 2013 for a Canucks and Avs matinee and I have been itching to return.
Dealing with Geno is a tricky one. He gains confidence when he plays well in big situations but if you don’t give him the chance he won’t gain the confidence so it’s a revolving door kinda thing. I’d try him at the net front and try to avoid carrying it in on the PP for a few games. He’s the biggest body on that PP so it kinda makes sense, despite all his talent. If that doesn’t work move him to the 2nd PP as the first guy who jumps on for that line. All you can do really.
