So they put some effort into it finally, and got rewarded. Let's see how long that lasts. That's the first time in a long time, that the Leafs looked like and actual TEAM to me. Everybody was putting the effort in, not just a few guys. Wouldn't mind seeing more of that.

Explaining Ice Hockey is Easy to Someone Who Knows How Ice Hockey is Played.
You have a Forward Line that is to Dominate Their Zones when the Puck comes into Their Zone and Try to Shot it into the Net.
Same as the Defensemen , They have to Dominate Their Zones and Back Up Their Forwards when Needed as well as Stay on the Points to Help the Forwards keep the Puck into the Offensive End of the Ice.

I thought I saw Mitch Marner miss "two" open nets. That just is par for the course this NHL season.
The Leafs are still… a mess. The real issue is that this team collectively has the talent to succeed when they buy-in and play team defense honestly and responsibly as a group. At this point we have to assume that the Leafs' "D" is a sparkling D quality rating. I'm being nice to the Leafs. The "D" probably really is an "F."
Calgary came out hard and determined. The Flames score a goal. The Flames look engaged and the Leafs look slow, uncertain, and challenged. Then three of the top five start working. Not all equally but they cushioned the hardships of that moment. There is a picture that was featured on Kipper and Bourne. The picture caught the moment. Go see Kipper and Bourne's show.
The magic that moves mountains came in like the wind and it swept away the Flames attention as Super-Leaf put himself into high gear. Auston Matthews is unbelievable at times.
Auston Matthews is something else. The really crappy thing is…. he's always had that in him and he still has more untapped talent. Auston Matthews is a consummate super-professional. He's a machine. He's big. He's smart. He's…. American. If Auston Matthews had of grown up in small town Timbuck-Four on the Manitoba and Ontario border; he'd crush opponents with body checks and threaten to eat the children of any Sasquatch that delivered a crushing body check against him. Auston doesn't play hockey like a Canadian. Auston plays hockey like a super-professional. Auston made a life choice to play… hockey. Auston wasn't born into hockey… the religion.
As for "who's" the next captain of the Leafs?
It should be Morgan Rielly or Mitch Marner.
