Let’s celebrate the good in this without piling on a guy having the worst day of his life (not that Lane is reading Reddit). He was a good person who just couldn’t click with this team, or get this team to click with each other.
That being said, Roy is a great choice. He’ll have the players immediate respect, which is needed because there is no time to waste.
Now it’s time to solve the teams’ real issue: the GM. If Lou wants to stay on as President that’s fine with me but he can’t be making day to day personnel decisions anymore.

I don’t think Roy’s first tenure as NHL HC was great with him actively beefing with his own players and him quitting 2 months before the season started resulting in the terrible 16-17 Avs season, but you have to make a move after going 3-7-2 since Christmas and 0-4 on the road trip.

One of the most legendary hockey players of all time becoming our coach is just objectively cool no matter what happens. This also feels slightly like a gift to Sorokin. « Sorry we have put you through hell, here is one of the best goalies of all time to make you feel better »
I truly believe that ALL this team needs is a relatively competent vision for the all the players to align with and we can make a real playoff run. Most of this team has already proved the ability to buy into a vision and create a whole stronger than the sum of the parts under Trotz and our current roster is more skilled than what we had back then. This is one of the main reasons I have been so critical of Lambert as I am a person who generally thinks the blame of struggling teams is applied to the coach a bit too much.

Yeah he’s the guy I wanted in NJ… I you guys got a fantastic coach who’s not only got a winning pedigree, but is also really good with young players, and it’s rare to find the two in one guy.
My only question is how well will he and Lou get along? Seems to me, they believe in the same style of winning… so I don’t think there will be a problem. Lou loves them Montreal alumni, having hired Lemaire and Robinson in the past on NJ.

Roy might be the best pick up. a great goalie who knows what defense is needed to maximize them.

1. Winning coach at every level. Memorial cup title and jack adams award with Co.
2. Greatest (possibly) goalie of all time who won multiple Stanley cups. There is no way players are not gonna respect him.
3. Passionate fiery. Ultra competitive.
4. No way he allows lazy sloppy unmotivated play from the Isles.
5. Goes for the jugular. Extra attacker with two periods to play. Haha.

If he gets the Isles into the playoffs and they win a round, it will be his first playoff win as a coach. Then again once you got past Boudreau there weren’t a lot of good replacements out there, and it’s not MacLean.
