As an Isles fan, I hate that navy blue almost as much as I hate the fisherman. This was supposed to be an homage to the 1980 team, and just about has NOTHING to do with it
I agree. The blue is nicer, the collar is nicer… overall an improvement! But yes, as "one of a kind" jersey, it's meh.
I much prefer the traditional navy jersey to the royal blue one. A nod to Isles teams of yesteryear.
They probably tried to make orange as a main colour but thought it looked bad. So they made that dark blue one the reverse retro. Looks better than the current jersey at least
But I like the lace look..

The current home jersey and alternate 3rd jersey are already in my collection for the Islanders. I can wait until there is a sale on this newer jersey for the Islanders. As a fan of the Vancouver Canucks that you are , you should know that I decided to order that jersey which will be my first Canucks jersey in my collection. Your channel was a factor for me in buying their jersey. Keep up the great videos.
I gotta say, I agree. At first I was the same as you and everyone else – completely underwhelmed by it but that’s because of all the other ones trying new things and this big grand reveal. This jersey looks clean and would look good as their mains
as a rangers fan i can admit i like it in a vacuum, but i think you nailed it originally when you did your power rankings. trying to explain to a non-hockey fan how the isles jersey is A) different from what they normally wear and B) the follow-up that "oh yeah the other team got a really fun-looking RR jersey!" is kinda what makes this jersey a disappointment. in reading a lot of the publicity material it seems like these jerseys were designed to create matchups between rivals, in that sense it's a let-down for me that all three NY-area teams went with a dark colored jersey.

The jersey is very clean. As a third. Not for the RR collection. So no, we’re not being hard on it. I can turn the best term paper in for a final, but if I don’t do my paper on the topic I fail it. Same principal here

So curious as to why he bought one. He said he wasn't, as an islander fan i wanted one not because it was a good RR jersey but just because i thought it was sharper than our normal jerseys. I think the stripes look better reversed.

you convinced me Shannon. That is a nice jersey and better than their current, which was ultimately a throw back to their original design, but I think as time has passed navy blue is the best colour scheme they've put together.

I like that retro reverse. I get why my fellow Islander fans a complaining about it a bit. I get it, but I can tell you that anyone born after 1990 would have had a coronary if the Islander had bought back the Fisherman logo. It's the hipster fans that dig that jersey. Me, I never hated on it. I think it would be a cool third jersey, but not the main one. It's associated with the worst time to be an Islander fan. Had the team won a Stanley Cup or two with it, Islander fans would have revered that jersey, but it is what it is.
Personally, had they bought the Lighthouse logo with the same blue and threw on it teal and orange stripes that would have been a killer. But, I like this Jersey and I will be looking to picking one up.

I agree with the shoe laces 🤣 on jerseys, I think it's run it's course.
I want to see the lighthouse logo on a third jersey more than anything. The jersey design doesn't have to match the Fisherman's, but it's such a great logo on its own, especially for a Long Island team. That being said, knowing Lou won't touch anything Fisherman-related with a ten foot pole, they would have been better off basing the striping design (and the colors) on the 1980 road jersey, and reversing that. The Islanders used a more reddish-orange in 1980 and they could have kept the royal blue. Orange jersey with blue and white striping done in the striping style of the 1980 roads. Still traditional but also fitting in to the true RR spirit.
Okay crazy me, an orange NYI version, jump the logo also into some sort Island logo that was former cropped one (1973-1995). No to fishstix though.
I like this jeresy as a piece of clothing to wear, almost like streetwear. I think it looks sharp with the navy blue and Orange. My tunes changed about but it’s still too expensive to be worth it

The faded blue on their currents is why they have one of my favorite jerseys. The colors just go really well

At first I hated the isles RR jersey but I went to the isles practice rink and saw them in person I actually like it
Trust me, it’s a good jersey on its own. And most isles fans agree with that. The problem is, we wanted the fisherman and we didn’t get it. The rangers got their lady Liberty and we got this.
All I needed was to see this next to the royal blue and I was like “uh yeah okay I need that” I get that it’s a boring reverse retro, but compared to what they have now, this jersey is miles better. The navy blue with no laces looks incredible in adidas. I hope they switch to this full time

I agree with most people here. As a reverse retro it is kind of boring, but as a stand lone it's awesome! There are a few things I dislike about the regular home. I hate the white at the end of the sleeves (they get filthy), and the laces. Reverse the orange and white striping, and get rid of the laces and the regular home would be an awesome jersey. With that being said, both are sharp jerseys!

…..from where I sit, among THE best alternate jerseys they EVER made – admittedly, I favor orange as a secondary color (I've made 2 VERY viable different designs for another with that as PRIMARY tone; 'reverse-retro' takes second place BEHIND flawed original 3rd) and, separating the stripe motif (rather than deferring to a CORE pants striping one; as much as the classic lower white wider sleeve stripe DETRACTS from it – had I the money, would be more intent in my search for an ELUSIVE '76-77 playoff variation REMOVED of same, while Dynasty-era blues / aways got INCREASINGLY tedious, BORING by '94-'95) somehow just confers MUCH more…..HEFT.
The laces are cool.
But I'm from Nothern Ireland, so don't think I've ever saw an NHL Jersey in the flesh.
