It’s a slash or it’s not. Nothing in the rule book about a broken stick making a difference. If it wasn’t a penalty before Tavares breaks his stick, it’s not after
i think the ref saw the slashes and was like ok no harm done till John shows that the stick is fucked so now the ref is like ok yeah thats a penalty

Tavares clearly felt the stick was broken before he bent on it as he slides his hands up and down the stick. It was a weird call, but a good call.
