Classement de puissance de tous les temps #27 : Sabres de Buffalo

Eh bien, Buffalo a été cohérent, mais pas comme leurs fans le souhaiteraient. J’ai l’impression que cette misère doit bientôt prendre fin. 2. I'm a Sabres fan, and this is fair enough. We just miss that bright promise from last year when we were in the top row of Shannon's board. Never good when the same cast of characters goes backward after having more experience.

  3. Max here – Thanks again for the thanks and apologies for the averages mix-up. It wasn't until last night I realized there was the small but sometimes significant difference in the "by season" and "by week" values I had sent you.

  4. The disadvantage of the week-by-week over the year-by-year is that it weights against the two shortened seasons

  5. As soon as Toronto wins their next Cup, Vancouver and Buffalo are then tied for the longest Stanley Cup drought (0 – '1970') as well.

  6. I think Buffalo might be a good trade partner for the Capitals. They could probably use Shepard or Stevenson.

The Capitals probably can't trade Kuemper. They could trade Lindgren, but it'd make sense to trade him to a team that expects to make the playoffs this year (maybe Carolina or New Jersey). But most likely the Capitals should trade one of their two NHL ready goalies at Hersey, and those guys would both be a good fit for Buffalo.

Goaltending is a big part of Buffalo's problem, although it's not as big of a problem as it is for Carolina and New Jersey. I have to admit that before the season started, I was influenced by Buffalo's strong second half last season, and I thought that this would be the season when they break their playoff drought. It appears that I was wrong about that.

I would love to see Shepard and Stevenson both get their chances in the NHL, and Buffalo is close enough to the playoffs that a hot streak (it doesn't need to be a 16 game win streak) could put them into a wildcard spot. I could see Shepard or Stevenson being good enough to do that for Buffalo. But I can't really see Buffalo doing that without a change in goaltenders. Levi is no Skinner.

  7. I commend you on your 40th Anniversary sweater. Born and raised in Buffalo, now an expat, but its the only Sabres sweater I own. I just loved the nod to the old AHL Buffalo team with the "Pepsi logo." Couldn't not buy it.
    Sabres needs:
-Veteran forwards. They need to trade some of their youth/draft capital for veterans that can calm the team down after bad starts and definitely teach them what a bodycheck is. I assume Okposso is done after this year. Girgensons probably would like a change of scenery.
-A veteran partner for Owen Power. Dude looks like a rudderless ship out there. They're going to ruin him is he doesn't get a mentor.
-The entire team needs to learn how to play defense. Ullmark looks good now because he went to a better defensive team. I think if UPL can play consistently, he is your "older goalie" for Devon Levi. Im not certain we need a veteran goalie, we just need to play better defensively in front of whoever we have in net.
-Power play needs fixin. The same guy that ran it last year is running it this year. I don't know what changed, but we went from one of the best PP's to one of the worst.

  8. I'm just glad that Buffalo trading Eichel made them a better team. Playoff bound for sure…….in 2033 😂😂😂😂

  9. Honestly, goaltending has been the least of Buffalo's problems this season. The defense has left the goalies out to dry most nights, and the forwards are not scoring enough. The team as a whole is just too inexperienced and are simply too easy to play against. They need to get mentally tougher so they can play a tougher brand of hockey. They play way too timidly most nights. And I think it might take a new voice behind the bench to bring that toughness out of them.

  10. Kevyn Adams blew it when he refused to making any meaningful full moves this offseason then over paid guys like Jost, Bryson and others who are now bouncing between the NHL and AHL.

  11. Decades of misery for the Sabres. The last time the Sabres won a playoff series, the iPhone had yet to be released.

  12. This series of videos is fantastic! Max, Yvonne, and Shannon have nailed it here. Especially, recapping the recent efforts of these teams in rebuild-mode….it shows the effort and is compelling content about squads that, day-in-day-out aren't always compelling.

  13. How do you fix Buffalo? You be patient, like Adams is being. I know fans don't want to be patient, but this is still the youngest team in the NHL. They have players in key roles who are just nowhere near their ceilings because they're so young. Power, for example. He needs to improve. He will improve. If you give him some time. Levi, same situation. Several others too. The problem is, the franchise was in such bad shape you had to live with this situation. It makes no sense to bring in older guys who won't be around for any run you may make in the future.

I'll start to get impatient if they don't make the playoffs NEXT year. Hopefully a couple minor tweaks to the roster in the offseason. Adams has tons of ammo for trades.
