Pagnotta works for the fourth period and they have updated the canes as a team linked to him. Have not seen an official statement on why or what indicated it.
“It’s up to Calgary, what they want to do,” said Markstrom, who will start tonight in New Jersey.
“That’s what it comes down to.
“I don’t control it.
“Whatever direction they want to go, and what they want to do, I’m not going to force anything.
“I’m not going to go up and meet and ask for a trade either.
Asked if having his name in trade chatter bothers him, he shrugged.
“I don’t read,” he smiled.
“I know they’ve got to call me before (a trade), and they haven’t called me, so I just keep playing.”
“Life is good.”

we’ve been « linked » to just about every goalie in the league over the past month
DrMantisToboggan22
I don’t buy it. Pagnotta is almost always wrong anyway.

I always wonder about these sources. If they are front office types, more believable but I expect that most of the time it’s the players agent just to see if they can improve the market for their client.

Could we be linked to a goalie who’s not over 30, please?

« Sniffing around » literally just means a phone call between GMs that probably went like this:
« Hey, it’s Don. What do you want for Markstrom? »
« Eh lotta guys calling me about him. Price is pretty high, looking at XYZ. »
« Thanks, I’ll get back to you. »
That is the extent of most « sniffing around. »

Interesting.

Is one of our minor league goalies injured or something?
Cinnamon_Shops
I’m for this but woof, considering how high Lindholm’s price was I have to imagine they’re asking for the farm.
HockeyGuy601
Probably see a lot of interest calls since Raanta is hurt again and Kochetkov hasn’t looked right. As to if the team actually makes a trade, we’ll see.

I listened to an episode of the PDOcast with Kevin Woodley a few weeks ago all about goaltending. He said Markstrom is a goalie that thrives on seeing a lot of rubber and struggles in games where he’s not seeing the puck. Not great for the system the Canes play. Feel like there are better fits out there that wouldn’t cost as much cap wise and asset wise

$6 million a year until he’s 37/38 years old though. How does that factor into Necas and Jarvis extensions in the offseason, never mind trying to keep Turbo who is UFA.
It would take some doing.

If we can get a strong, stable goalie situation, we might be a really strong contender post-season.
Raanta is sadly approaching the end of his career and is injury prone.
Freddie has been out a long time and could have an unfortunate ramp-up time.
Kooch still shows promise but hasn’t look right since his injury and honestly is a little too streaky for 1st
Martin had a good game….but it’s a small sample size.
Perets still needs to grow

I have yet to see a report from this page actually come to fruition about our plans.

We aren’t winning a Cup unless we commit to improving our goalie.

The canes are going to be linked to every trade, every rumor, everything, because our front office does their jobs and makes sure there’s not a deal to be made EVERY TIME. We have a fantastic front office as far as I’m concerned.
tralist_
Wooo 5 goalies
Bennett_19
$6 mil for 3 years on an already 34 year old goaltender. Especially when we have a few big contracts coming up, I wouldn’t want to spend that money unless it’s an elite tender

MUST AQUIRE ALL OLD GOALIES! 😂
Mads0995
Don, you’re barking up the wrong tree….We don’t need another 30+ goalie 😭

Just bring back David Aryes

Having seen the playoff meltdowns he’s had before, I wouldn’t be excited about it. Especially at 3yr/$6m AAV.

Just collecting all the goalies.
