He is staying!
He has a wife and 3 small children. Do you think he wants to uproot them 2 times in less than a year?
With the cap going up we should be able to keep him at a reasonable number. The Preds owe him $5.5 mil next year. $4 mil should do the trick.
I would try to lock him up for 2-3 years if possible, but no longer than that.
Hopefully Duchene/Pavs sticks around 3-4 years and another 1 year. Dallas is way weaker than they were last year. Even though they've improved in every area player wise.
They refuse to play full games and half the time play only in the 3rd. They STILL won't hit. They STILL allow players to hang around the net and whack away at Otter/Wedgie. Caps game they almost lost bc they WILL NOT clear the crease. They have lost games bc they won't clear the crease.
Defense has taken a step back overall. I can't remember a game that they didn't give up a pp goal in. Am befuddled as to how they are 2nd? 3rd? in the league. Giving up a ton of goals. A lot is on Otter. He gives up 1-3 softies a game. So does Wedgie but he's the backup. Otter is supposed to be elite. He is beer league compared to Eddie/Marty. Maybe I'm (we) were spoiled having seen them and others. Smith, Roman, etc. Maybe Otter is "elite" in this new NHL. Also didn't understand the rest issue for him last year. Elite play 40-60 games a year. Eddie did. Roy did. Brodeur did. Hasek did. Marty played more. 50-80 games.
I don't know. This team overall is playing tired and soft. There is 0 drive to win. 0 grit. Maybe they'll get serious after the break?
As is I would not be concerned about a stars vs avs matchup in playoffs. They have been similar offensively to the stars in that they’re out scoring a lot of their problems but the avs rely on their top line way too much. That top line is playing 25-30 min a game. McKinnon and Rantanen are awesome but they are thin at center and their foward depth is
Pretty mid. They don’t have a 2C. The Ryan Johansen experiment has not gone well at all. The stars choose wisely when signing a Nashville center, the avs did not. Georgiev has played all but 8 games so far and has a sub 900 SV %. They can overplay their top line and goaltender right now and get away with it but that is not sustainable going into the playoffs. Without multiple moves at the deadline, they will not have the stamina for a deep run.
Btw Joey why do you never site the sources you use? You just say “the power rankings” Who’s power ranking? TSN? the athletic? espn? THG? lol
They need to keep him and start getting rid of no productive players even though we love them. Time to let Benn go. He is invisible as Captain. Get two more goal scorers like Duchesne. Bring up the two top scorers from the AHL…and let's go!
Are we still allowing 3.5 goals per game?? If Jake Oettinger gets back to an elite level and the defense gets figured out we can beat anyone.
I think you can arguably trade Faksa for picks, and give his money to Duchene (Bring Bourque up). You need to sign Harley (RFA), Lunds (RFA), Delly or Steel (RFAs), Pavs (UFA), Hak (UFA), Wedge (UFA) unless Murray is deemed ready… Then Wyatt and Jake in 2025-26 (RFAs). Ouch. An option that would not be popular is to trade Seguin now that he is a two-way badass and has value again. Half our team has NTC or NMC's so it's not gonna get any easier for GM Jim.
I would love it if Duchene stayed in Dallas! When I heard he got signed on for this season I was excited. Dallas being ranked 5th…I guess I can see that and you're right, they have some issues — Personally, I'm not liking the goaltending at all. I don't feel very confident this season with our goaltending. Otter maybe an allstar but I don't know. I feel like he has lost a step compared to previous seasons. But, I also think we need to figure out how to better block shooting lanes and help Otter out better. I'd like to see Dallas be more aggressive, be faster, and swarmy. I'd like to see better passing and better setups. We seem to be shooting the puck ALOT since the Phily game (the one where we only had a single SOG in the 1st period) but we can't seem to get the pill in the net. IDK. And what is wrong with Robo this season? Does he need some re-oiling, a tuneup perhaps or maybe a firmware upgrade? He's one of my favs but man, since the playoffs last season he's been a little…off and dormant. It is what it is I guess, it's just a bummer. Go STARS!
Duchene is going to continue being a tremendous leader on the Stars. With his experience, he is in the perfect position to guide our younger talent to their greatness even faster. I hope he is truly invested in Dallas, and will even work with the HEB center to grow a lasting culture for Texas Hockey 🤠
